I didn't mean to imply his contract itself was going to become useful. I just meant its not the huge longterm deal some are making it out to be. If we traded all that garbage for him, he would only cost us 6 mil extra this year. Then we just have to pay him 1 season of big money the following year and his contract comes off the books.

As for the capspace next year, I was basing my opinion on NOT resigning Monroe, so I was basically just looking at it like Gordon for 2 yrs 15 mil, instead of Monroe for 4 yrs 15 mil. In which case we would have like 20+ mil to spend next summer.

However, even if we resigned Monroe, we'd still have probably 8-10 mil in caspace (the cap is expected to go up again). And to be honest, what do we even need 20 mil in capspace for? We have that right now and all we're talking about is signing a bunch of role players.

So what, that doesn't mean you go pay a 15ppg SG 15 mil per year. This kid is also the definition of a unhealthy player. He's never even played a full season before. But ignore all of that because he had some promise to him a few years ago.

I have actually never seen any promise in Gordon and never been a fan. However, he provides some skills that we can use on this team now. And while 15 mil/yr for 2 yrs may sound like a lot for a 15 ppg SG, its a lot better than 15 mil/yr for 4 yrs for a 15 ppg Center that we don't even need. At least we have a need at Gordon's position, and its literally half the cost of what Monroe may command. So its hard for me to look at his contract in any negative light when we are about to give double to Monroe who fills no needs.

Honestly, how can anyone here in favor of resigning Monroe for twice the price be complaining about the idea of giving half that to fill a position of need?

I'm not in the complete favor of signing Monroe to a deal like that either. I like him a lot more then Smith but if Smith can't be moved then there's no reason to pay another big man that kind of money. But just hell no to Gordon for me.

Jodie Meeks just had a better season then Gordon and can be had for a fraction of that cost.

The FA market for shooting guard is only Lance but he is most likely to resign to Indy and no other 2 guards are available. Gordon is a bad fit for the Pelicans with the log jam at the 2 guard and being unhappy since being traded and would do well in a new scenery. He's a capable 20ppg scorer but on a team with Jrue/Anderson/Tyreke/ and AD he does not get the touches he needs.

Pistons out: Jerebko, Bynum, Datome, Mitchell
Pistons in: Gordon

Pistons dump and bunch of trash and unnecessary players that does not move the needle on the team. They gain a contract that while bad just takes the place of multiple contracts for players that does not make the team better. They gain a 40% 3pt shooter and a sg who's capable defender and can create his own offense which they desperately needs. Gordon has a player option next so if healthy and plays well will be more inclined to decline it at only 25 would be looking to secure a more long term stable deal. Gordon also would be able to get the touches he needs to become a capable 20ppg scorer that he is.

Are you the same 504byrdgang from Pelicans report?
