C.J. Wilcox
Seems like a good player! From the limited stuff I've read, he seems like a true professional, a great shooter, an above average athlete (37 inch vert!), and some defensive potential with his quickness and outstanding wingspan. Plus, he's nearly 24 and ready to contribute. We're not asking for much from him, so he may be a rotation player this year. With the uncertainty of Collison and all, I'm glad we got him. What's your take?

Still wondering why we drafted a 2 guard...

I think he was the best player we worked out. Their were alot of other players we worked out that are undrafted. So if we liked any of them they will be good to bring in for summer league.

I hope this is a part of a bigger plan, something that would bring us a starter level bench big who might have worn out a welcome too early in his contract for an exchange for say, Jamal and/or Dudley plus some fillers.
ehhhhh f it.

that's already better than most we already have at 2.
JJ, hits 3s, decent team defense, awful one on one defender
Jamal hits 3s occasionally while being a great one on one offensive player, absolutely no D
Willie, hits 3s occasionally, decent team defense but not much of a one on one defender
Dudley, hits random 3s, too slow to guard most 2s.
Reggie, while promising, has proved absolutely nothing.
i'll take the second Wilcox we've ever had. I think he would be as good or better than the first Wilcox.
ehhhhh f it.

Someones got to go. The poor D and effort, lowest points scored ppg, older, and shorter in that order

Re: C.J. Wilcox
How much salary cap will Bullock & Wilcox use up? I'd be happy to give up Jamal, Barnes, Dudley, Green and take a risk on our rookies for our backup wing positions so we can use that saved salary to improve other areas.

I don't think getting him does anything in relation to the Collison situation, he's not anything close to a PG.
Seems decent, we'll see how he can play defense in the NBA, but he can certain to shoot

Never seen Wilcox play but I really hope this doesn't mean Jamal is on the move. He's crucial to our 2nd unit and he doesn't seem to be affected by age!
We have enough salary for a good backup big anyway. Dudley and Bullock and one of Granger/Davis makes almost $7 million. Still have the MLE too. Hope we give Livingston a homecoming.

This may sound harsh, but unless Doc learns to bench Crawford more late in games (when it's the right thing to do) Jamal will always bring us down with no D and stopping our ball movement. Putting your 5 best scorers on the court is not always the best thing for the team.

I second this.
as spectacular Jamal can be at times, he often stops the ball movement on offense while letting his man score at will on defense. I never understood having him on the court at the end of the game. I would have much preferred to have him his minutes in 2nd and 3rd quarters and letting JJ start and finish the game.
if Jamal is on the move, it has got to be a team that is already a contender, as a rebuilding team has no reason to add a vet who won't be a part of their long term plan, so there is a chance that we can move Dudley along with Jamal for a big who wore out his welcome.
ehhhhh f it.

Agree with most of this but Jamal has won too many games for us down the stretch. Over the last two years he's convinced me he's a basketball genius. Just an archangel off the bench. That guy can score on anyone in any situation. There's no one else like him. I'll take the bad with the good in his case.

Re: C.J. Wilcox
I think it is the playoffs where Jamal's limitations show up. Due to him being a heavy on the ball guy, the problem comes in that when we don't get scoring production from him, we get little else. He's 34, we can't ask him to change now, but if Jamal had developed into a player who could create plays for others at a high level (especially with those handles) or defend well (good length and quickness, though weak), it would not only have changed his value through his career, but his usefulness for us.
Sadly he is generally a one dimensional scorer, and he is quite stoppable, and when he gets stopped, he can hurt you more than he helps, not just for a game, but for a whole series.
He's a good player, and he seems less expendable than he actually is because of his isolation and shooting ability, but you'll notice that teams he leaves don't have issues replacing his production with less one on one skilled guys, not because it doesn't have value but because you win games in multiple ways, and the guys make up for their lack of individual scoring ability with other things like defense, etc.

Re: C.J. Wilcox
the first year was pretty fun watching him clown dudes with his and1 moves. and then i realized i was a dumbass cause i somehow forgot that defense, rebounding, passing, playing within the system, giving the ball to cp3 or blake when they're on the court, etc. are traits conducive to winning basketball games.
(hint, he does none of these things)
i don't hate the guy but i seriously despise the effect he has on our team. he's fool's gold and he's gotta go if we want to take it to the next level.

Re: C.J. Wilcox
Late in games he has produced some great shots, however do we really want the ball out of CP3 & Blake's hands? If he scores well 50% of the time but defend well 0% of the time then that is just bad efficiency. At the end of the day his game is designed to provide offense for our bench during the regular season, not during playoffs when he has to guard a starting caliber player. Therefore, for his contract, he is not worth the cap space if we want to win a title.

Re: C.J. Wilcox
yep. agree.
he's great if you wanna beat up on bad teams in the regular season. unfortunately our expectations are much higher than just being a run of the mill 50-win team, so he just doesn't fit.
