Post Draft Feelings
I'm curious as to how everybody feels post draft.
Personally:
After seeing what was available at #9, i am not as upset we lost our pick. I am disappointed that it wasn't a asset for us to use during FA, however i don't think Vonleh was the answer to our problems.
I am happy with Dinwiddie "The Mayor" "The Chef","Megatron". I do think he has a good chance of returning back to form in the NBA. I like the fact that he's a big PG, can defend and can shoot the ball(all hypothetical). My hope is that at some point during the season, he begins to raise the question of starting over BJ due to his play. #dreaming. At worst i think he becomes our new backup PG. So we addressed a need in 2nd round.
I would have liked to trade a future 2nd rounder or Bynum for GR3, i hate that our team lacks athleticism at the 3 position, particularly defending it, and i do think that GR3 has first round talent and a decent jump shot. In reality GR3 will probably end up a back up SF at best. #stilldreamin
One thing i think that is under appreciated is the fact that SVG has not given up any assets or made any moves that put our future in jeopardy. Its somewhat pleasant to be at this point in the season and know exactly where our team is at with no future commitments. It shows a lot of business sense for a brand new GM to not make a huge splash especially when assets are available.
Lastly I hate the fact that Boston perception wised have improved. i think Smart and Young are their future starting Backcourt, and that they are going to be a good one at that. Hopefully this means Rondo is on the move, and if that's the case i hope that means Josh Smiths value has increased.

Re: Post Draft Feelings
The Buffs were riding high at 14-2 with the 6-foot-6 point guard leading the way before the injury forced him to miss the last 18 games of his junior season. The Buffs then pretty much collapsed, limped into the NCAA tournament and took a 29-point beating in the first round.
■ In points per possession, he finished first among draft level point guards at 1.17; he was second overall behind Doug McDermott at 1.18.
■ In pick-and-roll points per possession, he was first among point guards at 1.06.
■ In spot-up points per possession, he was first among point guards at 1.28.
Feeling better and better bout the Mayor

Re: Post Draft Feelings
Whoever we would have drafted at #9 wouldn't have made us a play-off team, and next years pick would only have been top one protected. As painful as dropping back to lose the pick was, it would have been infinitely more painful if we had to send over a #2 or #3 next draft.
Losing the pick this draft will also allow Stan to focus on development this year rather than having to win at all costs in a desperate attempt to make the playoffs as to not risk sending a lotto pick to Charlotte. That is important.

Nice stat find.
Obviously, we all would have preferred the Pistons to have kept their pick. That lost pick may sting for many years to come.
As far as drafting Dinwiddie goes, I'm happy with it. The only other prospect that was there that had my eye was GR3, and I'd gladly take Spencer over him.
Whether he pans out as a player in the team's future remains to be seen. But, I'm hopeful.

Good points, Kilo.
It could be a blessing in disguise. I believe SVG will make this team better by his experience and coaching ability alone. But, if he can't upgrade this team, they may still be lottery bound next season.
As of now, SVG made no promises of a playoff appearance next season. He said his focus was to win what he can, and focus on getting better.

Re: Post Draft Feelings
I still want to trade next years first for Marcus Smart. +add in whatever else we need to. That would essentially be the same as keeping the pick this year in the lottery and losing next years one. League wide value for our pick should still be top 8 or so, but we should hopefully be much better this year. i think smart is exactly the type point guard we need to lead this team.

I think Smart is not being traded. I'm pretty sure this is signal that Rondo is being traded. I also would love smart on this team, however w Jennigns here it won't happen. Another thought is that Bos drafted Smart to acquire assets that teams such as detroit would want

Re: Post Draft Feelings
Honestly now that its done and we dont owe a pick anymore and were free and clear im happy. Hornets got a steal with Vonleh but I think we all now we would have taken McDermott or Stauskas with that pick. And those two are nice prospects but hardly anything to cry about. This draft was deep enough that we got a 1st round borderline lottery pick in the first round because of injurys.
In short im pissed that Dumars gave away that pick for bull but losing it in this draft because of what we drafted makes me at ease because now the Dumars era is done. And by the way I love the pick of The Mayor.

Re: Post Draft Feelings
I was more so pissed that it was Cleveland of all ****in teams that jumped ahead of us, causing them to lose their pick. If it was a team like Phoenix or Denver I would have been a lot less salty. Now there's less draft pressure for next year seeing as we're gonna have a first regardless.
I'm not as high on Stauskas as many are, I like him just fine, and I think he'll have some 20 point nights, but I think whoever he's guarding will have a lot more. I'm very happy with Dinwiddie however. 21 year old first round talent at 38. I'm well aware of his ACL, but I do think he will contribute nicely, even if it's just 15-18 minutes a game.
I think that if Smith and Monroe are here for the long haul, then having our pick next year is probably more important than having it this year, even if it is late lotto or even late teens. We actually have a good coach, and if these guys are here with Dre, we'll know exactly what we need in the offseason next year. If we don't have enough shooters, or if a PG or SF problem is still present, or even if we plain suck and pick in the top 5 it may actually be easier to build that way, rather than nabbing another forward in Vonleh or Stauskas who may not live up to a top ten pick hype.
Just my opinions.

^And Smith will only have two years remaining on his deal, Jennings will be going into his last year - both much more tradeable as assets. Monroe will be locked up for three more years and tradeable anywhere, we'll know exactly what KCP is and what exactly we have in Drummond. Jerebko and Bynum will be off the books as well. We're in a much better situation a season from now

He reminds me of young Garnett... Got range out to the 3 point line and those ridiculous long arms...
I think he's gonna be real good

Re: Post Draft Feelings
Garnett had the mentality of a star from day 1, Vonleh has the mentality of a role player
And for the guy who said Larry Sanders, actually Vonleh is a pretty mediocre shotblocker despite his length. That was one of his main scouting criticisms. He fell in the draft for a reason, his game film at Indiana wasn't that impressive and he needs a lot of polishing.
He'll probably be a hustle/energy big his first few years, maybe he blossoms into more than that down the line. Vonleh wouldn't have helped DET much imo.. Payton was the only PG available at #9, but he doesn't look much different from Jennings honestly

I don't see the agility and polish that Garnett had , and Garnett was younger. I agree with the rest of your statement

Payton is a defensive minded PG, with good quickness allowing him to get the rim and finish, without much of a jumpshot at all. Completely the opposite to Jennings. I still wouldn't be very excited to have drafted him. Im not too worried with losing the 8th pick. The only player i really wanted outside the top 4 was Marcus Smart, and we wouldn't have gotten him anyway.
Don't think the Sanders comparisons for Vonleh makes much sense either, Vonleh is much more offensive minded than defensive. Not sure he is going to be much of a shotblocker, which is kind of what Charlotte needed unfortunately. The LaMarcus Aldridge comparisons make a lot more sense, but he won't be that good. Likely just a backup PF for most of his career.

Re: Post Draft Feelings
I'm tired of the "first round talent" talk about dinwiddie. Sure he was injured, and his stock fell. But lets all face the facts here. If NBA teams thought he was going to turn into a starting PG/SG he would have been drafted in the first round, regardless of injury. Especially with the number of teams drafting foreign players this year, there wasn't a lack of teams drafting players they're happy waiting to see on the court. He's not first round talent.
That said, I do like the pick for what it was. I don't think he'll ever be a PG. I think he's probably more of a fifth guard on a team. He can come in and play either guard position. Not well, but good enough to pass as a 3rd PG/SG, and being able to play both, he holds a little more value.
Unless we had a top 5 pick, we weren't going to get an immediate starting caliber player. So I'm not terribly disappointed in losing the pick. But, to say that it might be a blessing in disguise is a little much. This was the draft to have pick in the 8-10 range. Any other year, that level of talent is being selected 4-7. So while our next protected pick was only top 2 protected, I first don't anticipate us even having a top 10 pick anyways, and secondly a top 10 pick was as valuable this year as a 3-7 pick will be next year.
I'm just glad the draft is over, and free agency is around the corner. That and we don't have to listen to people offering Monroe up in trades for draft picks in the trade thread anymore.

That draft was deep enough that no one would take the chance on him. Hell Cleanthony Early would not have been a 2nd rounder in most drafts.

Re: Post Draft Feelings
I probably feel worse than I did before the draft to be honest. My disdain for Dumars took another step once I saw vonleh drop to the hornets at #9. while I realise he wouldn't change the outcome of next season much, I think he was the perfect compliment to drummond and could have been our pf of the future. I know there are knocks in his game such as mentality, only playing 26mpg, not the highest iq.... Etc but the potential is undeniable. Massive wingspan and solid size, nice touch on his jumper, great rebounder.
Dinwiddie was a good 2nd round pick but I'm not holding my breath. I feel with SVG's presence alone we will en a better team than last year so loosing a #8-9 pick in this loaded draft is far worse than giving up 8-12 pick in next years. We will be very sorry for passing up Vonleh I guarantee it
