Re: Should the Bucks hire Jason Kidd (as coach pg 43)?
I think out of courtesy to Drew that we should set him free and not embarrass him by conducting a coaching search while he's still employed. Coaching ability/satisfaction aside, the guy didn't do anything to be strung along and look like a sitting duck. And also give him the chance to jump on some other team's staff.
I'm with some in that I'd rather have our new President hired and make the call on the GM, who in turn could hire the Coach.

We didn't have a new coach yet. Would've been awkward and would've raised speculation that would've taken the focus off of Jabari. It's fine.
Plus we had to wait until Kidd sabotaged his relationship with the Nets so they'd grant us permission to talk to him.

This would be bad if true. Pretty sure a team has only lost a draft pick for tampering once, back in the 90s, but it was for contacting a coach while he was still a coach elsewhere.
@NetsStats: Sources: Kidd received a job offer from new Bucks owner Mark Lasry before he made demands to Nets ownership about increasing power in org.

Not ideal, but I will take it.
Safe? Safe like Lincoln at the Ford Theater that night of the John Wilkes Booth play.
Jason Kidd is coming in as their "coach" instead of possibly as POBO now, being presumably hired directly by the owners.
I don't want Hammond here, but the play being run in the play book is vintage Kohl. Let's just hope these guys are able to execute the play better than Kohl, because we are all going to sink or swim together on this.
This shouldnt be the only hire announced in the near future.

You have no idea if he's been strung along.

This whole thing has caused me to Sunday day-drink.
I went to bed early last night at about page 4 of EastSide's initial post. I was blown away when I opened this up today and still haven't caught up (currently at pg 35 of this thread). So here's where I'm at, and I'm sure it means a lot to all of you
- I'm not a fan of the man. I like to cheer for people I consider good people. I understand that isn't the case for all of you and that's fine. It's why I'll probably always hold Aaron Rodgers in higher esteem than Brett Favre.
- That said, I'm not against having a guy with a DUI or who's done a few bad things on a team I cheer for.
- THAT said, I'm not cool with a guy who has a history of being a dysfunctional ass-hat running the organization.
- I honestly wouldn't even care if he was coming over to coach. He'd be a hell of an upgrade over Drew, but that's not saying much. He has no qualifications to run a team, however.
- Regardless of what he comes as, we better the **** not give a cent or a draft pick as compensation to the Nets. Not even a 2021 2nd round pick, even if was possible. He's out in Brooklyn.
- If he does come I won't be happy, but I'll give him a shot. Why the **** not, I guess.
Honestly, I would use this as a litmus test of the new owners. This really is a critical time for the franchise. I'm really glad we have the new owners. This seems like a really risky move, though. But ****, they're billionaires and I am not.

Re: Should the Bucks hire Jason Kidd (as coach pg 43)?
do we know when he had permission and when they talked? The real question is whether kidd knew he had the bucks job before making his power play with the Nets and was that power play just a ploy to get let go so he could go join his buddy in Milwaukee.Fresh_Prince12 wrote:mchase27 wrote:WeekapaugGroove wrote:I'm just hoping the bucks don't get nailed with a tampering charge. From the sound of the time line it sure looks like the bucks talked to kidd without permission. Would be heartbreaking to lose a 1st rounder for it.

If we lose a 1st round pick for this it might be singularly worse than any one thing Kohl ever did.

yes the heat lost a 1st rounder for tampering with Riley while he was employed by the Knicks.machu46 wrote:This would be bad if true. Pretty sure a team has only lost a draft pick for tampering once, back in the 90s, but it was for contacting a coach while he was still a coach elsewhere.

The owners have made it pretty clear a number of times that Hammond & Drew weren't guaranteed to keep their jobs after the draft.

Should be interesting to see if they can prove there was tampering. There's little doubt that Kidd's contact with Lasry sparked him to make the power play.

Is that the same source that said we were hiring Kidd to be our POBO?

They have no leverage. They should feel lucky to be getting a 2nd rounder. This will definitely happen. I don't see any way it doesn't.
They could go after the Bucks for tampering if they can prove Lasry and Kidd talked before Friday. Nets want a 1st, that is clear. It's happened before (when Pat Riley left the Knicks to go to Miami in 1995).
I don't think the NBA would make the Bucks give up a 1st as that is going to be a valuable pick. But I could definitely see them forcing the Bucks to payout more than just one 2nd and/or punishing them with a fine.

Right, but it is sure seeming like he won't be back and probably was never in the cards. I highly doubt he would've agreed to stick around if they were upfront in that he wasn't going to be retained. And if they don't plan to fire Drew unless they find a clear upgrade, I don't know how Drew comes to work with a passion for the future knowing they are looking to get rid of him.

It would be devastating. I don't even want to give up a second rounder for the guy, but I'm not giving up a lottery pick for any coach not named Popovich.
