Thunder can't be the spurs...yet.

Post#1 » by Podirk » Mon Jun 16, 2014 1:16 pm

This isn't as well thought out and I won't elaborate too much yet (meetings) but all season there have been complaints about...

Spurs system compare to OKC "system"
Pop compared to Brooks

etc etc etc

1. 29 teams want to play basketball like the Spurs do. BUT 17 years of stacking up building blocks, sacrificing playing time and money, being selfless, etc.

2. 29 other teams want there coach to be Pop...there's only one Pop and you know how he got the way he is??? experience

Royce Young wrote something about minute distribution between Pop and Scott with Duncan Parker at the same yrs exp as Duncan Russ.

*** I'm not saying the Thunder don't need to improve drastically in passing, team D, etc. (I do think some decent shooters around the big 3 can really improve the offensive efficiency and null a lot of it...)

As long as Perkins and Thabo are playing with the starters it is going to be tough to improve the ball movement. The Spurs can move the ball the way they do because they have 5 active offensive players who can score and most can shoot the ball. Lot easier to trust in that situation.

Pop extract exactly 100% from his players' potential. Brooks make his players underachieve and that's the difference. When Pop plays his players to teir strenght, Brooks plays them to their weaknesses.

Brooks makes his players underachieve? Who has underachieved under Brooks? Ibaka, Reggie, Harden, Russ, Adams have all shown more than it was thought possible when they were drafted.

Some would argue Jones and Lamb both have underachieved.

I just think we absolutely have to get more creative with our offensive sets and honestly more disciplined with our execution at both ends of the floor before we can be compared to San Antonio.

Lamb you can make an argument for, but he has so far put up numbers that follow Harden's career arc. Anybody who says Jones has underachieved is ignoring who Jones actually is and still thinking of his high school hype. PJ was a mid twenties pick, take away his name and would you call him an underachiever?

I would do back flips if they landed Pau. It would make the Thunder Western conference favorites.

Spurs can start 'scrubs' and beat everybody apparently.
