Depends on what Melo is willing to take.

Assuming no S&T, if we amnesty Boozer and dump Dunleavy and Randolph, we can offer 4 years $60 million.

From there, the more assets we dump, the more we can offer.

That's why S&T is the most attractive route, but the key component is how much Melo is willing to play for.

If he wants close to the max, we HAVE to work out a S&T. Gutting the roster isn't an option.

He feels like he failed to bring a championship to the team as the man, he maybe blames himself for Deng being dealt, and he blames himself for getting injured and disappointing all his fans. There might be a little bit of resentment there towards Melo, that he might come in and upstage him a little bit.

There's no indication that is the case but it wouldn't surprise me, it would make sense given Derricks nature.

I can see that with Rose.

Im sure they want to keep both but realistically Taj is the only good piece we will maybe trade for melo. Outside of maybe Jimmy. And Dunleavy was a given.

Amnesty Boozer, then S&T Dunleavy, Randolph and the non-guaranteed deals for Carmleo, Carmelo also gets a starting salary of $20mm in that scenario

Dunleavy, Randolph, and the non-guaranteed deals only add up to around $9.2M. How can we get a $20M S&T for Melo out of that?

Because with Boozer amnestied we will be about $11.2mm under the cap. The Bulls can take back salary in a S&T when under the cap equal to the amount they are under the cap + outgoing salaries upto an amount that puts them $100k over the cap. Deeks just wrote an article about this and posted it to his twitter account.

Taj and Noah are our resident New Yorkers.

It makes sense that they would be at the Melo meeting.

Boozer would be part of sign and trade.

IF we can't sign and trade Boozer this scenario works and is the most likely scenario. NY only takes on $5mm in salary in that scenario it's much more likely they agree to that S&T deal without Boozer than one with him. We would also have to provide fewer incentives since NY is not taking on as much salary.

If we can't sign and trade using Boozer's final year then Reinsdorf might, might amnesty Boozer and dump other monies to sign Melo outright but Melo wouldn't much care for it being he takes significantly less than S&T scenario.

If it's all about the money, he'll stay in New York.

If he's WILLING to play for less, he could still get more. His willingness to take lose would deplete New York's leverage, and they'd probably negotiate a S&T at that point.

Melo 22
Derrick 18.8
Noah 12.2
Taj 8
Jimmy 2
Doug Mcd 2
Mirotic 3
Kirk 1
Aussie big man 0.5K
Smith 1
Vet min 1
Vet min 1
Vet min 1

Total = $73.5M.

The lux tax barrier is $75M.

As far as acquistion, Boozer + nonguaranteeds are enough to get Melo his 22M. That's not an issue. The salary cap is due to skyrocket as new TV deals come online, so future lux tax and paying for Jimmy isn't much of an issue either.

Rose / Kirk
Butler
Melo / McDermott
Gibson / Mirotic / Cameron Big Shoulders
Noah / Smith
+ 3 vet min players

Melo might decide tax friendly Texas is looking even better at that point.

Randolph cant be included in any trade before 60 days. Also, No team is taking on Boozers deal without heavy incentives. Like 2-3 first rounders. If that, and they dont ask for Taj or jimmy too.

Wrong, Randolph can be included and traded with other players IF we are under the cap which only happens once we amnesty Boozer. In this scenario Boozer doesn't need to be sent to any other team, he can just be amnestied. You give NY the Sac Pick, and our pick in 2015 for taking on Dunleavy, Randolph and non-guaranteed deals which they will waive.

Assuming we can move off Randolph, probably gonna take sweetners for that.

Anyhow, is it realistic to think 15.8 is enough to scare NY?

I'll be one happy Bulls fan if our team looks like...

Rose, Butler, Melo, Taj, Noah with McBuckets off the bench.

It's a LOT less tbh. Our pitch is to come to take a huge paycut.

Hope he thinks Jo and taj upfront means an automatic title for that much of a haircut.

There is no way that Derrick Rose's health is not a factor in this. So he needs to stop saying stupid things.

Brilliant. That is a Title contender if I ever saw one. and no luxury tax?

Only problem is getting the Knicks to take Boozer in a S &T. We would need to give them picks. 1st's Which I'm fine with. Let's get on with the show.

It's possible that bringing Taj would peeve Melo. He could view it as pressure for him to take less money than he wants to. And it's almost like the anti-abortionists who shove photos of aborted fetuses in your face, or the vegans who shove beheaded animals in your face ... maybe Melo doesn't want to meet with the guy he wants off our team.

On second thought, since Noah(and maybe Pippen) has been a mediator/courier between the FO and Melo, we probably already know what Melo wants. Maybe this meeting is just a cover for the league to save face from allowing collusion (even though everyone knows collusion has been happening all over the place since 2010, but, like, let's not make it even more obvious.)

^^^^^ great post kid. One oversight is that the incomplete roster charge only is applicable to 12 players giving the bulls about half a mil more.

to me thats a fair salary considering the heats opted out of 20 mil contracts.

Y'all act like these guys should be diplomats rather than basketball players. People criticize D Wade and them for collaborating then in the same breath bash Rose for not being like that.
