Thoughts on JJ Redick?
I'm curious as to see what your thoughts are on JJ Redick, especially after his first year with the team.
I watched a lot of Clips games this year as JJ is one of favorite players. My personal thoughts are, that he had an extremely productive start to the season and did great in the playoffs. I think had he not injured his back he could have continued to put up career numbers. I think he fits Doc's system as a "Ray Allen" type player and will have a big role in the upcoming seasons.

Re: Thoughts on JJ Redick?
Love him. Wish Doc played him more late in games over Crawford. I love Jamal but JJ would've been much more effective imo.
But I'm super glad to have JJ on the team.

jj da best
we would have had some real momentum going into the playoffs had he not been hurt. it's kind of shameful that crawford gets burn over jj but with a healthy season i hope that won't be the case next time.

He's a great fit. All we need is for him to stay healthy.

If you think about it, it was kind of a freak play that he got injured on. At first I thought he we would be fine, that he just had the wind knocked out of him because he came back, but it kept him out forever. His reaction to Demarcus not shaking his hand is still priceless though.

I like him, but I'm worried about his future health
If the Clippers win the championship next year I'm getting banned from RealGM

Re: Thoughts on JJ Redick?
I will be very annoyed if we give him up. I'd be more than happy with a rotation of JJ/ Bullock / Wilcox, with JJ playing 28-32 minutes.

I don't think he's going anywhere, he seems to love playing for Doc and Doc was very pushy about acquiring him last off-season. At this point Redick has played for three teams, I see no reason for wanting to leave.

I don't think there's anyone here who doesn't like him. We just want him to be healthy, hopefully the offseason will be good for his back.

Great personality, pure shooter what's not to like oh that injury bug dude (fragile handle with care) stays on the DNP list regularly. Contending teams don't need that but a place like Charlotte or New Orleans might not mind. We need to move him and Green this offseason to allow Bullock/Wilcox to emerge as our future SG set then put JCrossover in the starting lineup.

He is a great shooter but undersized.
He has to come off a pick which can be a tough shot in the 4th quarter.
6'6 or taller is more of an ideal size for a shooter with long arms.

Re: Thoughts on JJ Redick?
Redick is really nice, I think everyone knows his strengths, but his main weakness is actually length. Length affects him in 3 ways for the most part:
1) Defense, contesting shots on defense, closing down passing lanes, etc
2) Getting shots off as when you don't have length, some shots just aren't open for you anymore
3) Finishing in the paint as he has a bit of a harder time getting shots over guys inside
Those are his 3 main limiting factors. Redick is a very useful player, but he's also a guy you want to compliment with the right pieces. Redick is best surrounded by length. Of course the Clippers have one of the least lengthy PF's in the league as well as PG's, and Barnes isn't anythings special in that department. The Clippers are undersized length wise at 3/5 starting positions (PG, SG, PF), and barely average at SF, that doesn't compliment him that well. Next is that if that's the case, okay, but they you're best pairing him with a lengthy / defensive SG, but sadly we have a decently lenghty, but far from defensive SG pairing.
Redick/Jamal is a great offensive pairing at SG, but pretty bad on defense. Sadly they aren't the most complimentary players to each other, especially if you end up putting them on the floor together. If we want to be most successful with Redick, since we aren't moving our PG or PF, we need defense / length at starting SF and at backup SG to better compliment Redick.

Re: Thoughts on JJ Redick?
Another plus for JJ is that he trains hard and puts in 100% effort.

actually, JJ and Jamal had good chemistry when CP3 was out, with Jamal periodically playing the point guard.
However, I agree with your overall sentiments. If Jamal isn't playing point guard, JJ and Jamal aren't very complementary.
Another thing about JJ is that although he tries hard on D, his relative lack of foot speed, leaping ability, and as you correctly stated, length make him a mediocre defender at best.

Re: Thoughts on JJ Redick?
Yea, kinda sucks for him, his lateral movements aren't even too bad, but he's basically a PG with below average athletic ability trying to guard SG's.
Really though if Jamal could actually be trusted to play PG and was that type of playmaker, it would be a whole new dynamic, but he doesn't like it, the coaches don't like it, the fans don't like it. Randomly here and there, but he has the complete opposite mentality of a PG, ah well.

it is kind of a shame actually. In some ways point guard is Jamal's best position. It keeps him from taking too many quick and reckless shots. He is also a good passer. Of course, he would struggle to guard point guards, but he doesn't do much better on shooting guards.

Re: Thoughts on JJ Redick?
Jamal could be so much more if he simply:
used a screen to switch defenders with a big,
used his famous 'handle' to freeze the big,
fly by and collapse the defense,
kick it out for an open 3.
Instead he mainly uses iso plays to chuck up shots which is ineffective since he shoots under 50% and under 40% from deep.
