I think Biz could be a candidate to be dealt. Vonleh is a rim protector with potential on offense.

Why bringing in a PF doesn't influence his spot at all.

I mean Biz and Vonleh are the same height but Vonleh has 20 pounds on Biz. Vonleh has proven to be an elite rebounder with great potential as a post defender. If I were Biz I would be concerned about my job on the second line if Vonleh comes in and shows some real promise.

Biz had more reach and is a better fit with Vonleh than Zeller is with him. Vonleh is going to be a PF and Biz is a center.

What can Biz do that Noah doesn't project to do? It seems like we say Biz is the better fit with Zeller because he's the more limited player offensively, rather than saying that Noah's potential skills can't be made to work with Zeller.

Look at the difference between Noah's pre-draft workout and Biz's:

Wow Biz is repeatedly missing point blank two foot hooks, while Noah is doing juke dribble moves, popping threes and looks very solid in the paint. I mean, just a small sample size video, but I think Biz set a new standard for what it can mean to be "raw."

Imagine the 16 year old Noah Vonleh. It's amazing if it's still functional just 2 years later.

Biz and Noah fit well together was my point. Noah works better as a PF because he has some potential as a shooter. If he is outside shooting it would be nice to have Biz rebounding in the paint. Also the ability Vonleh has shown to put the ball on the floor makes him a nice PF.

We don't let anyone not named MKG do offensive rebounding so that kind of nullifies the whole if Vonleh is shooting we need someone in the paint argument. Essentially then Biz gets preference over Zeller because he is the more limited player.

I think it ultimately comes down to who is more productive in their play time - Biz and Zeller or Vonleh and Zeller. If the answer is Vonleh and Zeller, which is entirely possible, then Biz would be right to be pretty worried.

With that said, unless Vonleh can be way more productive in the NBA than he was at Indiana, this whole conversation is probably moot.

The actual question is where do they see these guys playing in the future. If they see Vonleh as a PF like it appears then they will be smart to let him learn there and not in the post. Also the defensive potential of these two together on the court would be nice. Vonleh still needs to build some strength so having his back with a shot blocker while he takes the lighter PF instead of the C might be best too.

Vonleh has at least a few years before we make any decisions with regard to his future. Our decision about Biyombo though is right around the corner.

They have different strengths. Vonleh is a very skilled all around player who spent a lot of time in the post in college. He can operate on the perimeter or take smaller guys inside on the block (maybe even some bigger guys also). Biz is a defensive specialist big man. He has 3 and a half inches of standing reach on Vonleh.

Vonleh averaged 2.1 blocks per 40 minutes last year in college. Biz averaged 3.2 blocks per 40 minutes in the NBA. Vonleh 13.6 rebounds per 40 in college. Biz 13.6 rebounds per 40 in the NBA.

People talk about Biz like he hasn't improved at all since he got here. He went from 47% true shooting his first two years to over 60% true shooting last year. His offensive rating (points scored per 100 possessions) went from 92 (year one) to 98 (year 2) to 115 (last year). His defensive rating (points allowed per 100 possessions) went from 107 (year one) to 109 (year two, wrong direction) to 99 (last year).

Good thing he's played like crap on the only side of the court that counts so we can lowball the hell out of him right before he hits his stride

Exactly, I honestly think that's part of the plan. Good way to ensure we keep our players without having to sacrifice cap flexibility.

That's largely in part b/c Al is so slow and terrible on defense that the rest of the team has to sacrifice offensive boards for transition defense to cover for him.
