I don't dis agree. However he is the one that was talking about either staying in Miami and taking less to bring in Melo and or lowery, etc. then he said he'd consider going elsewhere if the right situation presented itself and may take less to pair with Melo on another team.

Riley wasn't the mastermind in 2010, and he isn't the mastermind now.

so, if houston trades away jeremy lin they still can't sign both him and melo.
So they would need to do sign and trade harden for anthony? :)

This is so confusing. Why did Wade and Bosh opt out then?

He's only seeking a max deal from teams other than Miami. That's the way I interpreted it. In other words... Don't call me.

Maybe the LeBron back to Cleveland rumors have some legs... he leaves the team they struggle get all kinds of lottery picks he comes back and helps them learn, and develop.

He leads the new generation of Cavs to the promised land in 5 years.

Brilliant strategy on his part, he didn't screw them by leaving he was allowing them to stockpile talent so they could win WITH him.

He's worth about $41 million if we are being fair. The man is about 2/3rds of a great team.

Could be a negotiating ploy. Perhaps the talks with Miami haven't gone as he would have liked and he and his agent are trying to apply pressure to Miami?

Why would a max deal stop any other team from calling him.

FWIW - I believe both Windhorst and Woj reported this same thing shortly after he opted out.

IMO - Bron opted out to force Wade/Bosh hand as well as Riley / Arison. Wade/Bosh need Lebron a hell of a lot more than he needs them. If both of them take a salary more commiserate with their play level - Lebron can still make the max and they'll have room to fill out the roster with mid-level free agents.

He's only met with Bosh and Wade. It could be that one of the two has informed him that they're not into taking a pay cut but that doesn't make sense.

I agree with you. He's not happy about Arison skimping on Miller. He knows he's worth a lot and he knows Arison has a lot of net worth lol. He wants to work it out but he wants Arison to step up and spend, and he also wants to get the other guys to permit more talent to come aboard (though I think he's more about pressuring Arison than his teammates). It's all these things rolled in one and I think it's fair.

How many teams have a full max slot?

And the rumors have been speculating landing Lebron and Melo with the hopes of them taking less than max.

Dallas, Orlando, Philly, and Phoenix. Houston in theory. Am I missing any?

It could make a little sense if Riley gave them the "moneyback, satisfaction guaranteed" opt-out. So they could always get their old deal back but Riley/LeBron pleaded with them to at least have more time to see what can be worked out.

That is really very possible. Put it this way -- they didn't opt out and assume full risk. I'm sure Riley must have promised something. No way Wade does this if, for instance, Riley could just renounce his rights tomorrow ... which would probably be their best move actually as far as building a roster. Hell renounce both of them and build around Bron. That's their best roster move but it's not possible here because this is not a 100% "assume risk" opt-out.

No way.

If it was about the money he would've just opted in for one more year since he had another option after that.

It's about the losing which stings much more than it did before he won.

None. I think he stays in Miami with a slight cut in pay. This chit is leaked to mess with Melo or to squeeze Riley's nuts. Or both. I could see him go back to Cleveland in three years but I think Miami reloads for another run. Wade will get something like 4/50, Bosh for 15, Lebron for 18-20. Add a veteran PG, Gortat, and fill the bench. Give it a 3 year run and either stay or head home. Just a total wild guess though.
Honesty is my only excuse.
