Jameer Nelson Waived

Jameer Nelson has been waived by the Orlando Magic. We just declined Billups team option. I can imagine SVG wanting Nelson on the team. I just hope he wouldn't be the starter here. He'd be a GREAT back up though. I'm interested in him. But not in the starting position.

Thoughts...

Yeah I forgot about Bynum. So you guys don't agree that he should start? I can imagine SVG trading away Bynum for a second rounder. Dumars was in love with him. No more Dumars though.

I think Jennings starts day 1 but if things get sour Jameer would instead start and Jennings would be our 6th man a la JR Smith. But that's if Jameer signs here.

On a side note Jameer was interviewed by Matt Dery about the SVG hire when news forst broke out and Jameer said he still kept close touch with Stan even after being let go in Orlando and Stan was just saying how he's looking for a veteran PG. I think Jameer knew this was coming which would mean Stan probably knew that as well hence the comment he made about being in the market for a PG.

Jameer imo is 90% going to be a Piston next season. I'd kind of be shocked if he didn't sign here. As for Bynum I have nonclue what Stan's gonna do with him. My guess is he's just gonna be buried in the doghouse.

Great another non defender... no thanks.
This will be a good test of SVG's metal... will he be obligated to old loyalty and better days... or see Nelson for the obsolete part timer he is

When SVG said he wants to get a "veteran PG", I immediately thought he had Nelson in mind. I feel that even more so now.

Go get'em, Stanny boy.

Nelson, 32 years old, is probably the better point guard now than the 25 year old Jennings.

The other issue will be getting rid of Bynum. But, if they can't find a taker in a trade, he could probably be bought out incredibly cheap.

Stan isn't going to give Jennings the starting job just because he was the starter last season. If he signs Jameer, Jennings better start showing some dedication to defense or he's going to be this teams Lou Williams.

Looking at Nelson's numbers from last year it looks like he's got more in the tank than I realized.

I expect Stan to surround our young guys with smart vet leaders this offseason. I expect Nelson to be part of that.

I think we can get good value for Bynum. I remember the Lakers were interest in him and I can imagine them having the same interest still. We can get a pick or a wing player for him. I do believe Jameer will be a Pistons unfortunately. I never liked his game that much. He wasn't that good. I just hope he's not the starter. That would make us take a step back. BUT, Jameer plays the right way. Just not good enough in my opinion.

Will Bynum
Height: 6-0 Weight: 185
2013-14 Stats

PPG 8.7 RPG 1.8 APG 3.9 SPG 0.7 BPG 0.1 FG% 0.428 FT% 0.802 3P% 0.323 MPG 18.8

Jameer Nelson
Height: 6-0 Weight: 190
2013-14 Stats

PPG 12.1 RPG 3.4 APG 7.0 SPG 0.8 BPG 0.1 FG% 0.394 FT% 0.857 3P% 0.348 MPG 32.0

Very close 3P% Almost identical height and weight. From these stats I don't see Nelson as much better then Bynum. Id actually be happier with neither Bynum or Nelson on the roster and just having Siva and Dinwiddie as backups.

I wouldn't be against signing Nelson for the right price. He's obviously got a good relationship with SVG and would help implement the system.

Definitely, and I can think of a PG needy team in Florida that he would surely choose over us.

Nelson is number 2 on my list of players I never want to see as a Piston. Perkins is #1.

Man, I can actually see Nelson taking a paycut to go to Miami. They desperately need PG help since Cole and Rio were atrocious.

If the Heat strike out on acquiring Lowry then Nelson as the next best?

I could see Nelson coming to Detroit to be reunited with SVG, there's also always the possibility that he would end up starting here. The Miami thing sounds alright, but is Nelson really that much of a step up from Cole and Napier? I don't know.. Riley must be pressured to make surefire leaps with the rotation on a budget.

Also, I bet Mario Chalmers fits in pretty nicely for what SVG is looking for and his stock had to take a dive after that Finals performance. Bet he won't command what a lot of people were thinking.

Chalmers is trash and he is a nutjob as well. He would refer to himself as the fourth member of the Big Four. He is delusional about his own talents and limitations.

We already had Bynum we dont need Chalmers or even Nelson for that matter, unless Jameer wants to play for vets min
