I haven't done the homework (sorry, teach), but aren't there a few teams (I'm thinking Philly off the top of my head) that have a ton of cap room and no real plan to use it on anyone just yet? Would any of them be willing to take on Boozer for just the one year? Philly has Thaddeus Young - if they didn't I'd say it actually makes some sense - they can let Booz play 30+ minutes and try to pile up stats in the hope of getting one more semi-lucrative deal next summer as a FA, while not damaging their own cap space or trying too hard to actually, uh, you know, win, ahead of schedule. Are there other teams that might be thinking something like this and willing to take Boozer off our hands?

You can't use Randolph in a multiplayer deal. If you want to trade him it has to be in a separate deal.

I don't want to throw around conjecture much but imo it's possible that Rose feels like a failure, and that is the reason he won't recruit now. He feels like he failed to bring a championship to the team as the man, he maybe blames himself for Deng being dealt, and he blames himself for getting injured and disappointing all his fans. There might be a little bit of resentment there towards Melo, that he might come in and upstage him a little bit.

There's no indication that is the case but it wouldn't surprise me, it would make sense given Derricks nature.

If we get Melo, and assuming 4yr deal, our window is now the next 4 years.

By the time its over, Mirotic will already be 28 years old. We'll be ready for a new generation of talent to take over even younger than him by that point, I don't see it as some incredible loss if that is what it takes to become a legit contender overnight.

Unless he becomes the next Dirk that, even at that age, would singularly be able to carry a rebuild as the main guy himself for several more years yet. But I highly doubt that will be true.

From what I've heard, they plan on making an offer around that amount, but are willing to negotiate. I think it's stupid though. Hey Melo, we think you're the perfect fit, but we're going to give you 2nd tiered star money as our offer out of the gates.

If the Bulls trade Butler for cap space, then the max amount they could pay Melo would increase by about $1.5M (the difference between Jimmy's salary and the cap hold that would replace him). Mirotic is put off until next year.
