Kinda OT- last 10 months of Astros trade discussions leaked.

Deadspin has released leaked information for trade discussions involving the Houston Astros.

Interesting Toronto Blue Jays related discussions:

7/19/2013

[Blue Jays GM Alex Anthopoulos] texted [Luhnow] and asked what it would take for Norris. AA said Aaron Sanchez is off the table but might be willing to talk about anyone else.

7/20/2013

[Luhnow] told [Alex Anthopoulos] that we would consider Stroman +. AA said he had a bunch of balls in the air at once but would get back to JL.

[Alex Anthopoulos] texted [Luhnow] and asked what a package around Stroman might look like. JL said Stoman + Gose would be in consideration.

10/18/2013

TOR reached out on Jason Catro. They said their No. 1 priority this off season is to upgrade over Arrencibia. They want to get a sense for what the price would be on Castro.

[Alex Anthopoulos] said Lawrie was untouchable. Sounded like they might consider a smaller deal for Stroman but later in off season.

Interesting to see that Lawrie and Sanchez were untouchable and Stroman was not.

Yeah, the fact that Anthopoulos entertained the idea of even discussing Stroman, for someone as middle of the road as Bud Norris, in the midst of a season where everything was going wrong, kinda scares the **** out of me as to what he will do in the next month or so.

That blurb is too short to really put much context into what was happening. For instance; we could have been dangling Stroman in a bigger package, for more than just Norris. The Astros ended up trading Norris for a package much smaller than "Stroman +", so it doesn't look like we were exactly throwing Stroman at their feet.

I don't disagree that there's not enough here to get too vehemently worked up over.

But at least from the excerpts, it seems Norris was a primary target.

And although middle of the rotation arms are hardly ever sexy to discuss, even though they obviously have value, I'd still be a bit worried that Stroman would be involved in a deal that seemingly centered around Norris.

Although, since Stroman keeps popping up, perhaps it's a case where this organization undervalued him.

I'm still on the side that Sanchez is worth giving him the time to figure things out, but at the same time, I don't see how they could view such a large discrepancy between their likely outcomes to keep throwing Stroman out there while slamming doors on Sanchez.

I am quite fearful that AA will make a regrettable trade. Trading Stroman at this time seems like it would be counterproductive though, seeing how he might be one of our best starters. Hopefully Daniel Norris has worked his way into "untouchable" status.

Stroman's value has gone up considerably from last off-season.

Stroman wouldn't have been untouchable for me either last year.

I'm not saying he should have been untouchable, or that anyone should be considered untouchable in the strictest sense of the word.

But there is a fairly wide gap between "untouchable" and included in discussions involving Bud Norris.

And I'd argue also that Stroman's upside hasn't changed in the past 12 months. Yes, he's actually performing at the major league level now, but this shouldn't be a significant shock to anyone either that he is.

This would be concerning if it wasn't for some of the other stuff in the documents There's a lot of ludicrous trades that the Astros throw out there(like Luscas Giolito for Lucas Harrell or two scrubs for Mike Stanton) and they give the impression that they were being entertained by their counterparts. I have a hard time believing the Orioles were considering trading Bundy for Norris(after rejecting Gausman for Norris), which is even more lopsided than Stroman for Norris. The trade talk in the document is pretty useless, that's the impression i get, there are some interesting nuggets like the Rockies just losing out on the Jose Abreu biding.

Well he asked what a deal would look like around Stroman. So I'm guessing he's looking for Norris and other stuff. Could be Springer, could be a scrub. Who really knows what AA wanted.

I guess we can say that he wasn't afraid to trade Stroman though.

Isn't this just more of the 'AA calls everyone about everything' stuff?
