Anybody else think Deng is a smoke screen?

Post#1 » by atlantabbq99 » Mon Jun 30, 2014 3:56 pm

Anybody else think Deng is a smoke screen, just like how Kyle Anderson was used before the draft?

Seems like typical Ferry, throwing out a name even before FA starts. He did the same thing last year in the draft and in FA.

I highly doubt that Ferry threw out either name. It's more likely that Deng's agent got this rumor started in an effort to spark interest in Deng and get his name in the media.

I take no journalist reports about the hawks seriously. Just look at draft night for proof. Woj was leaking every draft pick before the name was called. It got to our pick and he tweeted I have no idea what Ferry is going to do.

Ferry does not leak anything to the media.

Agree with ATLHawksfan21 in that the info didn't come from our FO, but there are other sources that would need to be contacted into any conversation that would involve two parties. My personal opinion is that Deng is a backup plan - if he's a Plan B or a Plan F determines whether I like Ferry or think he's a DA though.

yeah. this. linking Deng's name to someone with the Hawks caproom helps him and no one else.

Free agency hasn't started yet so who would the other party be? It's still illegal for Ferry to contact a player's agent, right? I don't see who else he would contact about Deng outside of his agent.

Eh, it happens all the time at this time though. Why do you think guys like Melo can actually have an itinerary set for the 1st few days of FA? If there's a reason he could do that, then why is he waiting to visit those teams? Why not just do the tour now?

I think the rationale is that teams and GMs talk to agents who talk to players. There is no direct contact between the team and the player and hence technically no tampering (the agent didn't sign a contract with the team - the player did). Sure, it's a loophole that you could drive a truck through, but no one really seems that interested in closing it.

I wouldn't want Deng on a long term contract. I'd give him a year or two max.

It is quite easy for reporters and agents to look at a team's roster, see what their needs are, see what cap that team has, and start playing the Match Game.

The leak came from Dengs Agent, Peachtree hoops has been all over this. Hawks have NOT indicated anyone who is a target for them

Smoke screen or not do we want deng? I think it's general view that's he's not plan A realistically speaking I think plan A has got to be parsons bc we have a legit shot at nabbing him up while morey begs for Melo. Parsons love Houston but who doesn't love a 8 digit annual salary?? Hayward would've been nice but parsons is our guy I hope

If Deng makes it on this team, then Parson better still be a Rocket and the same with Heyward being a Jazz. Even if those two ended up staying put, then Deng better be getting less than 10 million.

We've never been abreast of Ferry's secondary and tertiary targets beyond the obvious primary ones so I always take things with a grain of salt whenever lower tier guys are mentioned with the Hawks. Trading Louis was not a necessary step for those type of guys so I can't envision them being the end-game. Are they a possible result? Sure but solely as consolation prizes and only on cap friendly deals.

Melo
Bosh

After these two, I would be equally happy with any of Parsons/Deng/Heyward/Gortat/Gasol/Ariza.

Luol deng kinda makes sense though A third Allstar to our starting lineup has played with Korver. Someone posted he's younger than lebron

Plan A has got to be parsons he could be a cornerstone to our franchise

Plan c could be cj miles and Danny granger both on one year deals

I was actually thinking about Granger. Guy who was lost in Indy because of injury and never got a real shot once PG emerged.

Same with Clippers, he was just lost in their rotation but had some nice games.

a nice subtle contract would be interesting, a PROVE it type deal if hes interested.

I do want him. Check the thread I just made in our Hawks forum for my reasoning.
