Big difference between Lowry and Bargnani/Turkoglu.
Lowry is a good player.
At the time I thought the Bargnani and Turkoglu deals were stupid, and I was obviously right.

Lowry per 36 the past 3 years:
11-12: 16/7.4/5.1
12-13: 14.1/7.8/5.7
13-14: 17.8/7.4/4.6
Not incredibly different production.

1. It's not your money.
2. It sends a message to the league that a prized FA returns to Toronto without listening to other offers
3. Who else would we spend the money on? I'm genuinely interested in hearing who would come here for 9-10 mil/yr
Yep. Only negative is he may get injured, but that's a risk you get with every player.

Don't care at all if he's getting paid a few more million per year. As long as you don't dish out bloated contracts to bench players/scrubs it shouldn't be an issue. What matters is the length of the deal. If we can manage to get him signed to a 3 year deal it would be amazing. Doubtful but would be great.

How you ever got 5000+1s asking questions like that?
The answer is yes cap $63 million Luxury tax level $77 million we are barely at the cap level resigning them that includes retaining Hansbrough, signing draft picks, Bebe & Williams.Plus we have a midlevel exemption and over $4 million TPE from Gay trade.

It was just a question. Relax bro.

lol why? Is it to spare yourself the pain of another free agent leaving? If so I get it, really... if not, where else do you think he bolts to and why?

1-2 mill overpaid isn't the worst thing in the world. If a player is worth an extra 1-2 million to a specific team, then so be it. 10-12 for Lowry isn't terrible, IMO.

Paying not just for the all-star that he's going to be, but he is the key to making Jonas and t-ross better. Remember both of those guys said in the exit interviews that he's their best friend on the team.
He's the heartbeat man. I'd pay him 4/52 gladly.

To all the nay-sayers about moving an overpaid player.....
Masai managed to trade Bargnani away for a package 100 times what any of you thought he would get.
Just saying.

I don't care if we end up paying a little extra. If he plays like he did last season, 12 mil would be a steal.

Re: Grange: Lowry will stay with Raptors, done deal.
Let's just say the Raptors do "overpay" Lowry by $1-2 mil/year. What's the worst that can happen? We eventually need that $1 or $2 mil to have enough cap space to sign someone? If that were to happen... I'm pretty sure it's not very hard to dump an end of bench player making that kinda money, to make room.

We Will Regret Kyle Lowry's Contract
I love him he's probably my favourite player on the team along with JV but I just know he will get injured and probably never play at his 2013-2014 level ever again. I doubt we see contract year lowry ever again.
He's an injury prone player and this kinda feels like Calderon circa 2008 all over again. Calderon was actually 26 when we signed him to that huge deal so they are around the same age also (Lowry is 28 right now).
Im expecting around 11 million per year.

Have you guys even been fans of the Raps for the last 10yrs? Do you actually know how the CBA works? How many times do you want us to shoot ourselves in the foot...
I swear I am starting to make a list of all posters who thought paying Lowry 12m+ a year was a good idea & didn't matter much...
In 2 years if Lowry either reverts back to old self, can't live up to his contract, becomes untradeable, or hinders us from having enough space for another Free Agent I don't want to hear a word about you crying about Lowry... All of you guys/girls have been put on notice... Your crying, complaining, armchair gm'ing, hindsight is 20-20 player card has been pulled...
Saw all this same crap when we resigned Bargnani, when signed Hedo... Majority of people thought it was good deals & then later start to bitch about... All I am saying is later on down the line you better own it cause few do on here
This is awful.
Lowry has been worth this contract since his last year in Houston. He will remain in his prime likely until the end of a four year contract. On the open market he is grabbing 11 million per minimum. He was EIGTH IN THE NBA in win shares. He was robbed of an all star spot and an all NBA mention.
Do YOU know how the CBA works? The cap and average salary are going to skyrocket with the new TV deal, the average salary will probably be reset near 7 million. Lowry should be getting one or two million more than that? Good luck keeping any quality player with that mind frame. If his contract is at 12 mill he won't even be paid as a top FOURTY paid player in the NBA. Name 30 players better than him. If he plays close to the level he did last year this contract is a steal. The only way it wouldn't be (at worst) fair is if he gets injured or gains 30 pounds. Speculating that he will is just that: speculation.
Hedo was a head case who grabbed a massive payday from one playoff run. Bargnani was never good. Making these comparisons is pure paranoia.
