Wiggins... SG or SF??

Post#1 » by KI-DW-TT-AB » Sat Jun 28, 2014 6:13 am

He'll eventually be SF but I read earlier that we'll consider him a SG.

This kind of creates a problem, dear front office, Cleveland LOVES Waiters.

#23 was a SG majority of his rookie year also, I just want to see Waiters shine, & would hate to see someone like CJ Miles start at a 3 while he comes off the bench.

He's 6'8". How many players are we going to play out of position?

Well the guy he's always compared to is Tmac who's a 6'8 SG.

But that was before rise of undersized SG which is basically the SG position today, the barely 6'5 Hardens, Beals, Lances, 6'4 DWades & Waiters. Monta 6'3.

You do still have tall SGs, Kevin Martin/Derozan/Klay are 6'7.

I'm not entirely against it if we didn't have a huge hole at SF (as always).

Yeah but he's also only 200 pounds. So...

I honestly expect for Wiggins to start at SG while Waiters comes off the bench. I mean Dion did play fairly well as a reserve last year, and that was under Mike Brown as the coach. He was also a great bench player at Syracuse so I am sure he can be accustomed to a sixth man role. Hopefully we will see a lineup with Wiggins, Waiters, and Irving to close out games though. But to start? I don't think so. Maybe in the future when Wiggins puts on some weight.

Start Kyrie/Waiters/Wiggins. Who cares about size? If Wiggins isn't starting SF who is and would they play better defense than wiggins?

Nick Batum plays at 6'8" 200, Tayshaun Prince played there much of his career. Personally, I'd rather he played a bit undersized and learned technique than to simply win the play because of size. Besides, he'll likely be 210 by the end of camp.

That said, I think it depends on what happens in FA. If CJ Miles is the best competition at SF in Camp, you roll with Wiggins.

Why would the Cavs draft a prototypical SF and then play him at SG? The only reason they would do this would be "fit" issues between Kyrie and Dion. Fit issues that arise in large part from the fact that Kyrie plays the point like he's a 2 guard. You don't fix one problem by creating another. Tell Kyrie to either play the point out of the PG spot or just move him to the 2 guard.

He'll play at SG once we trade Waiters for Love and LeBron signs to play the 3.

And thats fine.

But ive been thinking about that dream scenario where we trade waiters, thompson, bennett and 3 firsts for love and whatever else which would leave us kyrie/wiggins/love and pave way for lebron. But going foward how can that ever work financially? It cant.

thanks to bird rights we can keep em as long as Gilbert is willing to pay

I have no doubt in my mind that wiggins will become a superstar, lebron has time for another max contract after this one, love is 25, kyrie 22, it could get really ridiculous, like having 4 players making 20+ m.

Dynasty sht... it's all on you LeBron.

Probably the last coach I'd want on this team.

Mike Brown being on the same level of "do not want".

He's been a SG since elementary school. He loves attacking in transition down the right side. Defensively, coaches love his length against smaller 2s, and his lack of bulk doesn't hurt him there.

Andrew is pure 2.

I agree he could hold his own against a number of the SF's int he league, but I fully expect us to protect him until his body matures and play him a lot at SG.

In the long run?

I'd been assuming he'd transition him to SF, but it depends how his game develops. He doesn't have TMac's skills ... at least yet.

I think he'll play both at different times. To get the most out of the starting lineup we'll probably have to put him in at the 3 so Dion can start alongside Wiggins.

If Dion is still on Cleveland by seasons beginning. If so, agreed.

I definitely think that Wiggins can and should play minutes at the 2, but as a majority/long-term 2? No, I think that's pretty ridiculous.
