3YRS @ 8 PER FOR ISIAH THOMAS

Post#1 » by captainrebel » Tue Jul 1, 2014 6:05 am

Really? Aren’t you being a little too aggressive Mr. SVG? I’m going to assume that there is a deal in the works for one of, or both Jennings and Bynum if such an offer has been made to Isiah Thomas. Not that he doesn't deserve it but I'm thinking $7 Mil

Source? I actually wanted Isiah, but I believe any team that was interested (I heard it was a handful) was going to pay him significant money.

That's the rumored offer, and $8M is solid. Very solid. Especially if there are worse players out there being paid $8-$10M. The difference of $1M isn't enough to cause an uproar about in a player's market. He'd still be under-paid if you ask me. He's true production places him at an All-Star level salary.

What does this mean for Jennings? Would rather pay 5 mill more and get Lowry...unless josh is involved in a s&t

A sign and trade centered around Thomas and Smith would be perfect. Thomas isnt my first choice because of his poor defense but I would take over Jennings every day of the week.

Apparently he isn't as bad a defender as I thought based on the article. On/off is flawed though.

This is terrible for us, don't like it at all. Would prefer to offer Stephenson $8-10m

If the Lakers are offering you 3/21 and the Pistons 3/24, you take the Lakers offer.

The Pacers would do backflips if that's all the money it took to retain Stephenson. The man is going to get paid...

Anyways, what's not to like about that deal for Thomas? He's basically the player Jennings is supposed to be, so upgrading our roster at the same price could only be positive

The pistons will be much better than the lakers next year. I'd imagine winning is a priority for a competitor like IT.

I would be so happy if we could do a S&T of Smith for Thomas. I'm a big fan of Isaiah Thomas. He's very impressive offensively, and defensively he's at the very least not worse than Jennings.

Even if we didn't do a S&T for him and simply signed him out right, I'd still probably be happy as I see him as an all around upgrade over Jennings, and a fairly significant one at that.

Also he's a RFA so its possible the Kings would just match if the Lakers didn't offer anythig they liked, and we already know they have interest in one of our players in a trade, so it could play out just like the Monroe situation. Where they tell him these are the teams we'll trade you to, and if you don't like them we'll just match and keep you.

I wonder if the reports about the Celtics calling to talk to Thomas could be connected to us at all. Maybe a 3 way where the C's get Thomas, Kings get Smith, and we get Rondo. :D

My hope is this: the Kings are amiable to a sign & trade deal of IT for Smith because of their interest in Rondo. They would need to make a few other deals to get far enough under the cap for such a deal to work though.
However, if they did find a taker for Landry/Thompson and waived Terry, they could very well offer the Celtics the kind of deal they're looking for. Something like Derrick Williams, Mclemore, and a 1st might get it done. Boston is all but certain to have a fire sale this offseason imo.

I can understand a sign n trade but do we really need to be spending that kind of money on another under sized pg if it's a straight signing?
