If we lose McRoberts, then Jordan Hill better be in play as a free agent. Clifford is familiar with him from his Lakers' days, and we've been linked to rumors involving him in trade talks this past season

I would love to have Hill.

Not at all. I'm trying to find a second salary that would fit and if you can get him at 8 on the low end, he might fit. I really want to concentrate on SG and SF. I think we can live without McRoberts.

In a scenario where we sign Lance we would still be using up pretty much all of the rest of our cap for a guy who is barely better than MKG if at all and people are saying there are multiple teams bidding on Ariza in the 8-10 million range. Just seems like a waste of a huge chunk of money to me, especially since Lance can play minutes at SF.

Yeah it's tight even without McRoberts. Seems like we have the loot for one big name guy, not 2. Afflalo would have given us an opportunity for 2 because we would have trimmed out Henderson. It's too bad.

It sucks that we have so much cap that we basically have to do something with it even if we don't spend it all and there is really only one guy I would want to spend it on. If we can't get Lance we are going to be in a position where there will be a lot of pressure on us to overpay someone. Hopefully if that happens we can get someone decent on a one or two year deal like the deal Paul Milsap got with Atlanta last year. I wouldn't mind signing Ariza at 10 mil for a single year if we can't get Lance. I just don't want us to panic and throw a ton of money at someone who is merely above average and not really a big difference maker.

I've likened Hill to a 'not poor, but currently broke' version of Greg Monroe with defense if you compared their 'per 36' numbers in a nutshell and detracted the hype/expectations

I'd be fine with rolling it over another year than to just sign someone like Deng.

I like Livingston as our key reserve PG target (if he is). Length and quality production, can swing as needed.

McBob is going to get courted, but I'm sure we will get a last look at the number. Hope we don't overspend there, as it becomes parked money when we need to be developing our young bigs soon.

I hope we at least get word of Lance flying to Charlotte soon for a meeting. We need to give him the grand tour and pitch. If that happens it can't stay quiet. Wonder who we have Big Al and Kemba calling this morning?
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

I think we would be a more desirable location to Livingston than all of those teams with the exception of the Spurs. It's got to be hard to turn down a chance to play for pop.

Livingston would be a nice addition. I prefer someone who can shoot, but I do like him as a player.

Livingston will be pricey because of his versatility as a combo guard. He really drove home his abilities with the Nets. So if we're interested we'd have to have minutes at the 2. Otherwise he's playing 10 minutes strictly as Kemba's backup. It means

1) No Lance

or

2) Henderson can be moved

or

3) Both if Hayward is in play

Everybody pray

I think it is a given he is gone. The PF space just got more crowded and he is going to want a combination of PT + Money. We can only really guarantee him the money because Noah or Cody could easily make the jump and out preform him. As great as he exceeded expectations, it would be unwise for us to resign him, due to a factor like player development.

I understand your stance, but there's not really any competent starters on the free agent market that are 'legit 3-point threats' unless you're interested in Trevor Ariza or optimistic enough to believe we can land Carmelo Anthony. Neither of Gordon Hayward & Chandler Parsons fair more than marginally better or similar to Lance Stephenson in that area as it may superficially appear

That's why I'm not that excited about Charlotte overpaying in this free agency market

Technically, if your going off last season, then Gordon Hayward is not a significant upgrade at 3 point shooing, however, if you look at his collective career, then you would see he has the potential to be a reliable outside scoring threat.

:D :o  Cho is smart when it comes to dealin for a free agent. You notice on the NBA wiretap ,the Hornets are not mentioned much. Cho's waiting for dust to settle and then he will make offer thats best to fit our need.
I'm convinced that RFA Parsons or Chandler are his primary interests to address our scoring need at 3.
Livingston rumors could be a smoke screen...He's got his eyes on a couple of older veteran PGs maybe a trade.
Also we need a veteran backup at center other than BIZ?
This defintely is going to be interesting..

I don't think that it's a given one way or the other about McBob at this point. I wouldn't worry too much about seeing NYC listed as interested. They don't have a ton of money to throw around.

Get a bit more concerned when you hear Miami, Dallas, LAL, or Houston in the mix, and even then it's going to be interesting.

On the other hand it wouldn't shock me if the Hornets did something out of left field like getting Kris Humphries signed. As others have mentioned Noah and Rex are probably a few years out project wise. Getting Kris on a 2 year deal would be one way to improve the offense.
My picks:
2020 Draft (3rd pick) - Tyrese Haliburton, Devin Vassell, or Onyeka Okongwu
2021 Draft (11th pick) - Moses Moody

Return to Charlotte Hornets
