Woj: Wiz re-sign Gortat - 5 yrs/$60 mil

Post#1 » by Rafael122 » Tue Jul 1, 2014 12:52 pm

According to her Twitter page, which I cannot embed for some reason, he has a Wiz offer and an offer from another team. Gortat is looking for a fully guaranteed deal.

Edit: Let me try this:

It's going to be Pekovic's deal. And Pek is two years younger.

5 years, $60 million

I'm guessing 5 years 58 million. Looks like gortat might be here for his prime and a little longer after that. Ernie will do whatever it takes to resign him because he gave up a first.

BTW, I'd just like to point out that she's been wrong before. She was notoriously jumping the gun on the Redskins stuff earlier in the Spring, so I don't take her word as gospel.

I hope so. I think the Wizards will have to do a 100% guarrantee on the first 3 years. However I think any additional years should have partial guarrantees.

The scary thing about a 5 year deal is a 12 million starting contract can end at 16.5 million. Although it also could end at 7.5 with max decreases.

What do you think Gortat's contract will look like?

+1 Gortat's agent has Ernie by the Golatas, it's easy work making Ernie Grunfeld panic-sign with a bloated offer. Let's pray that this the offer won't be as awful as it could be for the Wiz.

Here's my last post in the Gortat thread:

If the last year was only partially guaranteed, I wouldn't be opposed to that because it would mean smaller annual salaries.

$8.5M
$9.25M
$10M
$10.75M
$11.5M (50% guaranteed)

Total potential value = $50M, but we can get out of the last year for less than $6M (and it also makes Gortat a valuable trade chip at the end of his deal)

EDIT TO ADD: I'm proposing this as an alternative to the 4 for $44M that many are expecting. If we can get Gortat for less (maybe the 3 years, $36M that Bogut re-signed for) then of course that's even better.

Agreed to wait, since "reporting" can be wrong in the hectic pace of Day 1 of Free Agency.

And yes, it's probably grasping at straws on my part, but the fact that the report includes a comment on guaranteed years implies that it is an item of negotiation. So if that's the case, it could at least be brought up by the team, and might be used as a negotiating point to get something else (like declining value in out years).

We'll all see soon enough....

I'm guessing 5 years $58-$60 mil. I don't see Gortat or his camp settling for $50-$52 mil when there are other suitors.

Why in the world would they offer Gortat a 5 year deal? It's not like this current core is good enough to win a championship.

Im on record saying Gortat CAN be signed for 3/33, or 4/40. If we give him 5/50+, Im done. Not as a Wizard fan, but I will not longer be unbiased in treating every move EG makes independently. I will consider him completely inept (While I only consider somewhat inept now) and have no faith that this team can take the next step.

I think the wiz see a weakened center position throughout the nba and think gortat can be as good as the best centers over the next 3 plus years. If you say portland houston and New Orleans have the best true post then gortat is the tier below that. Also while he can dunk- his game isn't athletic so he should be able to play for a while- Couple all that with he is gonna get his deal here or somewhere else-(cause of his playoff run) Erine better have brought the ball gag and Vaseline - cause it's gonna be Marcellous Willey time!
