Mike Scott to have many suitors as FA

He might get an offer out of our price range. We got good value out of him. But, again, wish we had packaged him and moved him at the trade deadline. A future 1st or 2nd rd draft pick would have been lovely.

Been far too busy to do any statistical analysis, but his defense definitely fails the eye test. I don't think he can start unless he works on that, or unless he becomes A LOT better on offense.
Honestly I think after that Game 5 he played his way out of Atlanta into a bigger contract.

Re: Is Mike Scott preparing to play SF going forward?
He is a very solid post defender and he has a pretty strong post game(not that he shows it when on the main team).
He needs to play the 4 and get some discipline when it comes to his deep shot. He is clearly capable of hitting it, but he needs to use the fact that he can hit it to get to the rim.
That said, I do think he played his way off the team. Some team is going to toss money his way...and be pleased with what they get.

I see strictly as a scoring stretch 4 off the bench. Doesnt play good enough defense to be a starter and he will lose alot of his offensive advantages if he is moved to the 3.

It would appear that you nailed this prediction. Especially if Ferry is indeed working on a big deal or two.

Re: Mike Scott to have many suitors as FA
This title is quite a stretch from what the actual tweet says. The tweet is saying that other GMs think that the Hawks would rather save the cap space than a match a large offer for Scott. Where does it say that many teams are interested in him?
and you really think that Scott would have garnered a future first in a trade at the mid-year point last season? Your line of thinking seems to be that we should just trade every player who is playing ok at midseason for picks. Do you not realize that half of all picks end up being busts?
Scott was pretty bad in that Indy series outside of catching fire in game 5. He shot poorly outside of game 5 and his defense is always below average.

Would Scott have garnered a 1st rounder straight up? No. Absolutely not. But bundled with other assets, it's not out of the realm of possibility.
I think it is a mistake to let good players walk away for nothing. A solid player on an expiring contract should (almost) always be shopped in the event a trade might garner us additional assets for the future.

Might Mike Scott take the Josh Childress route to get past Restricted Free Agency?
This is very likely his one shot at a nice sized contract. Can't blame him for following the money.
Especially with Adreian potentially taking his spot in the rotation.

Re: Mike Scott to have many suitors as FA
The Childress route to escape RFA is not a good strategy at all given that.....well Chills never actually escaped restricted free agency.
This could be a bit of a win win for the Hawks: the PF rotation opens up for Payne, Scott goes overseas to develop and whenever he returns is still likely a RFA with the Hawks because his cap hold is a minuscule amount to continue to carry.

Agree with Mace that it'd be win/win for us if he goes to Russia... although I hope for his sake he doesn't go... can't imagine the money would be worth the risk given all the **** going down in Russia/Ukraine right now.

The Russia situation is overblown, it's like saying you won't go to America because of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. Yea, the government and military may be involved in another country but that doesn't mean that ordinary citizens are affected all the way back in their homes.

Re: Mike Scott to have many suitors as FA
There's talk of seizing Russian foreign assets, which might create some backlash in Russia against Americans... particularly higher-profile ones like basketball players IMO.
Who knows maybe it's overblown but personally I'd want more stability.

Re: Mike Scott to have many suitors as FA
Again I really don't know what kind of "backlash" you're expecting. Americans play throughout Greece, China, Turkey and Israel where there are also very fervent anti-American sentiments in addition to much greater security concerns. The only thing that Mike needs to worry about is if sanctions hit the owners that are paying him not about being singled out by some mob in the streets. If the former is the case then I'm sure his agent would steer him away but nothing ventured, nothing gained. He very clearly would not be considering any of this if he was receiving even equally lucrative deals Stateside.

Re: Mike Scott to have many suitors as FA
Don't know where you got the idea I was talking about mobs rather than financial consequences, but for what it's worth anti-American sentiment is much higher in Russia than other places.
You might be right that I'm overstating the concerns but personally I wouldn't take the risks.

Re: Mike Scott to have many suitors as FA
Well can you blame me? You brought up "backlash" and "anti-American" to describe your fears for Scott so it's hard to equate that with "he might not get paid".
