Jimmy is not considered core.
Rose
Noah
Taj
Core players.

i think you're underlooking the degree to which chicago can counter any knicks demands if the preferred route is a sign and trade - 'we have trades lined up to open up x amount of cap space and you'll lose melo without getting any assets,' that kind of thing.
beyond that, you keep talking about the leverage between new york and chicago and i think you're ignoring the leverage melo has if he decides he wants to play in chicago. if melo says 'hey, i'm going to straight up sign in chicago for a contract beginning at 17 million' then it puts the pressure on the knicks to salvage something out of it. this is where it differs from that lowry story - if lowry says 'i am not playing in toronto under any circumstances,' then masai can't say 'i won't trade him because i want to resign him!!'
i basically don't think there's any way to know how the sign and trade situation will actually play out, because both sides obviously have some degree of leverage. it's just weird to be very certain that the knicks can salvage anything better than picks at this point in the process
Yeah I agree, can't really argue much there. If the Bulls do claim they have deals lined up, the only deal that would actually create the room is for Taj, which seems unlikely at this point. Maybe Phil calls that bluff, maybe he doesn't.
The biggest factor is definitely how much money Melo will accept. If he is truly looking for $20+ million as a starting salary, then the Bulls would pretty much have to work out a sign and trade and couldn't really make that threat to Phil. Like you said, if he's willing to accept something in the $17 million range, that would change things.
Nothing really matters until we know Melo's contract demands. So I'll head back to the Knicks board "where I belong", I'm not looking to incite anything here of course.

Chicago or New York. That's it.

Also what is Lala doing? Maybe her and Pippens wife are doing some shopping downtown. The possibilities. Eeek.

Dallas and LA probably not but Houston has a lot of talent there and they can offer him the pretty much the full max by trading Lin.

Scottie Pippen's response to whom he would pick for his running mate, Michael or LeBron: "That's a dumbass question. I've never done anything with LeBron. I wouldn't take LeBron to the movies."

Carmelo we've seem to have encountered an unforseen problem with the plane and will need to stop and have dinner.
