Why not take a bit more of a pay cut and sign with Miami if winning is truly the most important thing.

Or resign with New York for max money

That's where the sign and trade comes in. Melo will get his money.

This would be it I would imagine. It's interesting, you're right.

What if Rose is really better than ever right now? What if he walked into the meeting in his workout gear and told Melo to follow him to the gym. Rose then puts on a display of awesomeness for Melo and tells him he can go back to the meeting to work things out now. Rose leaves and Melo is like... where do I sign?

Now they're all out at dinner celebrating. We won't hear about it for a week.

Who knows? maybe it happened.

I still see Dallas as the wild card here I imagine he's the best pitch man in the league, but best basketball fit is definitely Chicago

It would be more like $67 million, not $60 million. It wouldn't be a flat contract, he'd get raises, and most likely scenario would be some type of sign and trade with New York anyhow, possibly for very close to the max for 4-years if they have a sign and trade in place for Boozer.

He's also the lead guy for the Jordan Brand in the NBA right now. Probably doesn't hurt to have him playing in Jordan's house while being the lead guy for Jordan's brand. Think that could up his marketing potential a lot.

You're right, but I think Dallas is just lagging too far behind in Melo's eyes for some Cuban magic to put them over the top.

Dallas was a very attractive situation for Dwight and DWill the other year, but both of them went elsewhere.

Chicago or New York. That's it.

Dallas and LA probably not but Houston has a lot of talent there and they can offer him the pretty much the full max by trading Lin.

No they can't. Will take more than just trading Lin.

Their cap number will be around $41MM if they trade Lin. Then you throw in various cap holds which I'm guessing is around $4MM. That puts them about $16MM below the cap. They can still open up about $2-4MM by dumping Jones and Donatas. It won't be hard for them to offer Melo close to $20MM a year. Morey has been saying for a while that they can open up enough space to get close to the max and they easily can after the asik trade

What kind of title window (how long) does a core of these guys realistically have?

29 year old Taj
29 year old Jo
30 year old Melo
25 year old (with prior injury history)
Kris Bryant will go down as the greatest Chicago athlete after MJ

A lot of them do seem hell bent on being relevant this year when I think it would serve them better to tank a year

It would be a big blow to their ego if Melo chooses us over them I guess

It is not just that. They have no perspective in regards to their team.
