And the one move I feared that could happen that could swing all this ain't going to happen

I feared the heat getting gortat and Lowry. That IMO would have made melo consider how good Miami will be say screw it cause there's no team that is beating them and settle with cashing out in ny

But gortat re up with Washington means Miami will still be the small team and at worst they get jameer Nelson IMO we with melo can overcome that especially if Lowry cashes out with Toronto

Two questions for the end of the Carmelo visit - did he commit by dinner and did a Chicago politician waive the taxes on athletes today?

The thing about a sign and trade is that it takes two. New York can say no and force Anthony to take less, find a different team to deal with, or stay for money. Lots and lots of money.

But that would be acting irrationally for the Knicks if it comes to that. I'd assume Dolan would step in if that becomes the case, and overrule Phil Jackson.

Phil Jackson isn't stupid, and he's not going to do something dumb to hurt the Knicks franchise going into last year. In a sign and trade, the Knicks can get draft picks as well as $3 million in cash from the Bulls. Would be incredibly dumb to turn down free picks and cash, as well as probably turning down an additional $6 million in cap space for next summer by passing on the opportunity to dump JR Smith on the Bulls.

And if the Knicks walk away with unprotected picks in 2015/2017 from the Bulls (as well as the Kings pick), they need to take it. You never know what those picks could become.

2015 Bulls pick will probably be bad, but you never know, maybe Rose gets injured again and the team self implodes on itself as Melo adjusts to fit in. Kings pick could be a late lottery pick over the next few years. 2017 Bulls...you never know what could happen in 3 years, Bulls would probably be good, but sometimes teams just fall apart, so that may become valuable. With the exception of the Kings pick, neither of the Bulls picks would likely be high, but there is the chance they could become that, you just never know. If not, they're still draft picks that can be used in trades, move up on draft day, trade away for future firsts on draft day, used to stash international players, or maybe the Knicks can draft their own Jimmy Butler or Taj Gibson late in the draft with them!

And dumping Smith is huge. Could be the difference between a very significant in being the difference between being able to kill it in free agency next season and not killing it.

Point is, it seems highly unlikely that the Knicks front office would throw a temper tantrum and refuse to sign and trade Carmelo when it would be in their franchise's best interest to make the best of the situation, dump JR Smith, tank next year with the Booz Cruise, and get some additional draft picks over the next few years in the process so Jackson can rebuild with a completely clean slate, and more assets.

Too bad we don't have Eddy Curry to offer.

NYK offered Melo the full 5 years, 130 mil, per Windhorst.

Sure you can criticize him for saying he won't recruit, but the other stuff was over the top by some people.

I don't see an argument for how this was a "+" for Rose. It was huge for the Bulls, but Rose seemingly got pressured from Thibs and Noah.

All of this could have been avoided in the first place.

Now you're getting back to the whole recruit vs not recruit.

Wasn't me who brought it up.

So lets assume melo picks us but wants more then the 16 mil we can offer w/o trading Taj. And ny is too prideful to take back picks in a boozer swap.

Well, if melo is confident in his abilities and is willing to take a risk on what could come about healthwise, he could sign a 4 year deal here with a 3rd year opt out and then just resign to a max deal and take advantage of the tv contract.

Then he really only ends up losing around 12 million. And for a guy that has made max money since coming into the league that is not a big deal. lebron has given up 3x that amount to win.

You can only get an option, in the last year of a deal. Melo is not signing for 3, so he will not have an opt out after 2. He may look for an opt out in the last year, but doubt he has near the earnings power, in his next deal.

the heat guys had eto's and player options in their deals. http://data.shamsports.com/content/page ... s/heat.jsp

so eto year 3 and po in year 4 ?

Seriously though, Melo has spent all day with us compared to Mavs and Rockets who have to share a day. That's gotta be good for us.

This at least means the meeting went well because otherwise he could have just said he needs to leave for Texas. I think we for this. Can we get a commitment now though? Hope so. Don't let it be Wade/Bosh all over

No, I'm talking about people trying to say that DRose is selfish and doesn't want the team to get better. Or that he had an ulterior motive. That stuff was always ridiculous.

I don't see an argument for how this was a "+" for Rose. It was huge for the Bulls, but Rose seemingly got pressured from Thibs and Noah.

Enough calling out of fans. Today's actions pretty much prove, that the franchise believed it was important for Rose to be part of this and that he wasn't doing the team any favors by not recruiting.

All of this should have been avoided in the first place.

That same article had Rose clamoring about Melo. For all we know, his comments about recruiting meant he wasn't going to call up other players and tell them to come. That doesn't correlate to him not being willing to be apart of the pitch. You can speculate that Jo's tweet was geared towards Rose and he felt pressured to do so, but it's all speculation. I highly doubt he would let all the bashing from the internet sway what he was doing, or else he would have been back from his ACL and MCL injuries earlier.

This is a + for Rose because he's willing to be apart of a pitch to recruit an FA, and it was proved today. That's fact. Everything else is speculation, but people love to speak up without trying to better understand the context of a quote or what he meant by what he said.

What was there to avoid? For all we know, he was going to be their today regardless if that Yahoo article came out or not.
