If you're not the Spurs or Thunder, Lebron is the only available equalizer. Others make you a contender, he's a championship caliber player.

Good point.

Phil: Lebron, you want to be known as the GOAT? Carry Bargs and Stat to a championship, and no one will ever dispute your greatness.

I mean yea those guys are injury prone but Leborn and Melo alone can carry a team. If Stat and bargs show up here and there, we be on a good path along with other small pieces.

Chris Bosh’s 5-year deal with Miami expected to start at $11 million in year 1. Dwyane Wade will sign four years, $12 million in year 1

John Canzano

If true that's fantasic for the Heat. Bosh's contract starting at $11 mil, Wade at $12 mil and Lebron at the max ( $22 mil), that's approx $45 million. Around $10 million cap room. If Lebron takes less and accepts a contract starting at $17 million then they could have $15 mil cap room. I didn't include Haslem because either he takes the minimum or they resign him with their $2.7 million room xception after they're done signing free agents.

If those numbers are true... wow. Bosh would likely get full max elsewhere. WOW.

I don't believe this John Canzano guy. If LeBron wanted a 1-2 year deal, why didn't he just opt in? Also, Bosh and Wade walked away from all of that money to take $11-12 million?? Don't buy it. He wouldn't be the only guy reporting it.

If he had just opted in, that wouldn't have put pressure on the Heat to make changes. Plus he can make a little more now too.

On the flip side, if Bosh is so willing to take $11 mil, he's not the dude I'd want to go to war with for titles. It would be a pretty good explanation of him going soft and not showing up in big spots.

Pretty sure this is just a way to avoid the tamperi g rules. Tell teams he wants full max. Make it difficult for them to sign him and then wait until riley lands free agents and resign at a lower number than max.

Well he did say he wanted flexibility and didn't want to sign long term (4-6 years ) and wanted to leave his options opened with a short term deal. Well as said in this thread he already had one he opted out of that was going to pay him a lot of money. Now he says he wants the max.. Doesn't make sense unless he signs for 1 year somewhere

honestly miami was melo's only choice outside of NY if the big 3 all took paycuts to fit melo in then maybe...

bulls: do you really think hes going to risk being in the exactly the same station he is in NY, where he has to carry the team and management cant get him any help because a ex-allstar injury prone player is taking up the payroll? and he gets to do it at a MAJOR discount and not in NY

rockets: face it harden is probably worst all-star to team up with, he doesn't play defense and its more of a iso ballhog chucker then even melo  and its in the west where 50 wins might not even get you into the playoffs, they would honestly be maybe the 3rd or 4th best team behind the spurs thunder and clippers

the knicks can pay him the most he liked our draft pick and hes very engaged with phil/fisher and we will have all the cap space in the world next year, the only team that made sense was the heat if they could make a big 4 but now that doesn't look like its going to happen.... and hell if lebron signs a 2 year deal with a player option maybe he could end up here :D melo gets his money gets to play in the city he wanted and has just as good a chance of winning a ring here as bulls/rockets

Your right! Wow. And if Phil can get him to buy into his master plan maybe Melo writes something into his deal giving the Knicks more space 2015 to make moves..

Phil's going to get it done. Weather Melo is patient enough to wait around to see it happen ? Time will tell.

But I'd laugh if he signed elsewhere and the knicks with all Phil's chess moves somehow go out and win it all next season, lol. I'd like to see the look on his face. Prob something like the look on Tiki Barbers face as the finals seconds ticked off in jan 2008 & he came to the realization that his former team just made history by beating the only 18-0 team in NFL history and he was not apart of it

Would Riley accept a trade like this: Melo, THJ, Tyler and 2018 first for Lebron and Allen?!

In case Lebron leaves they will probably sign Gasol and Deng, too...

Gasol/Andersen
Bosh/Haslem
Melo/Granger
Wade/THJ
Napier/Cole

or Bosh // Melo // Deng // Wade // Napier

While the Knicks could end up with:

Dally/Bargs/Bynum
Amare/Early/Odom
Lebron/JR/Thanasis
Shump/Allen/Ellington
Jose/Larkin/Prigs

Anyway, maybe the best move for the Knicks would be if they give Melo the max, then if things dont go according to the plan, we can trade him later on for far more better pieces than Chicago and Houston are preparing to offer right now!! I hope Phil has more than Plan A and B in his mind...
Strength and Honour!
