Carmelo still visiting with Bulls. Do they let him get on the plane without a verbal commitment?

Source who's at dinner with Carmelo Anthony, Joakim Noah, Derrick Rose, Tom Thibodeau and others said that Bulls' pitch is "going great."

The waiter?

Can you explain why they got Tony Kukoc to help in the recruiting?

it seems kind of degrading to me...at least what I'm imagining. Rose couldn't have done this willingly. I have a feeling he may not be too happy. I hope that isn't the case. I hope I'm reaching....

Hopefully he was over it by dinner time...its got to be tough...huge melo signs all over the UC.

Let's be real, Derrick would have had to really humble himself to work out, as the 'man' of this team, to appease Anthony. I doubt you'd see many other stars do that.

I'm sure it took some persuading from Jo and the gang, but I'm proud of you Derrick.

KC says Derrick wasn't at the dinner.

NOW Joakim's tweet makes sense (to me)...Derrick probably felt some type of way having to do this.

What's funny is that we was just sitting here yesterday posting about how nobody is asking Derrick Rose to bend over backwards.....

I'm trying to say to myself that this is reasonable but..... I don't know. That had to be the most nervous workout ever.

The bible says don't be prideful so...... all good?

I don't know how I feel about this. I know I wouldn't have advised it.

So a championship ring matters more to you than generational wealth?

He already has generational wealth.

Listen, I'm not saying I can speak for Melo, or any athlete for that matter, but the difference between 190 million (the 130 he's already earned plus 60 from us) and 260 million (the 130 he's already earned plus the 130 from the Knicks)..... would not make much of a difference in how I was going to live MY life.

At that point, yeah, I'd actually rather the experience of winning a Championship.

And in reality, the difference in total money, as a percentage, is going to continue to shrink when you consider things like taxes he'll pay in NY, the endorsements he will make as a winner, the endorsements he's already made, and the fact that even if NY can offer a "guaranteed" 5th year, the Bulls or anyone else is likely to eventually give him that 5th year at some point anyway.

I've been reading desperate Knicks fans on here all day saying how Melo is not going to leave that much money on the table but at the end of the day his career earnings -- when factoring in everything -- will be like 350 million versus 390 million.

It's negligible.

Frankly I think the argument is stupid. A much better argument from Knicks fans would be that he wants the max money for ego purposes, or that he prefers NY as a location.

The whole "OMG he'll never make up that money" angle is pretty much utter nonsense.

Bulls' dinner is over. Usual suspects (Reinsdorf, Pippen) in attendance. DRose saw Melo at UC but not at dinner.

I think Chicago would be equal if not better for his legacy than the Knicks would be.

Knicks and Bulls are equal international brands with dedicated fans and storied history. In fact, thanks to a certain player from 20 years ago, the Chicago brand may even be better than New York's.

Honestly why would Knicks register internationally at all?.. Compared to Bulls I don't think they are a blip on the radar

Agreed. There's some empirical evidence to back that up (popularity on social media and other evaluations of brand strength). The Bulls and a top four brand in basketball at this point. Higher than NYK for sure.

I don't see what he has to lose if he signs a 2 year deal with the Bulls, if it doesn't workout he will be a free agent in 2016, maybe the Knicks will be in a better position to win now in 2016. So if we get him I see a 2 year deal

Chicago Bulls left the meeting feeling very confident Carmelo Anthony is seriously considering signing with Chicago. (Source: Alex Kennedy)

I hope Derrick gets over it, he's gonna have to pass the ball to this guy. Really hope it works chemistry wise.

I know I'm getting ahead of myself but yeah...

If it's one thing we know, Derrick will pass to teammates.

coldfish wrote:Brilliant move by the Bulls to sabotage other teams' talking points. When Dallas and Houston bring up Rose's knees tomorrow, Melo is going to have an image of Derrick doing a windmill dunk and raining 3's less than 24 hours earlier. It might have been demeaning to Rose but him taking one for the team just destroys one of the primary negatives for Chicago.

Imagine how nervous the Bulls brass must have been after everything we've been through. God forbid Rose gets hurt doing a workout to prove he's not hurt.

Thank God everything seems to have went well.
