Why are we still discussing the trade with Portland? There's no trade to be made that would satisfy both teams accordingly.

Well the Blazers apparently have interest in Monroe..
What about something that sent Green/filler to Det, Monroe to Por, Lopez/young pieces to Bos... ?

Re: Trade Ideas Thread
If Danny & co. are moving on from the add to Rondo strategy, I wonder if Houston might be the most likely suitor for Rondo.
The NO pick they got for Asik, Clint Capela and future firsts.
A pretty meh deal, but it stuffs us even further with picks, gives us a shotblocking prospect and puts us in line for another top 6 pick in 2015.
Then you have a core of Smart/top 6 pick/Sully (or KO) in place and you sell picks and prospects to surround them with a young veteran supporting cast. The New Orleans model.
I don't particularly enjoy the idea of extending the rebuild process another 2+ years, but Ainge may feel has no other appealing alternative with Love seemingly off the table and Rondo potentially itching for greener pastures.

Combining a few rumors of Celtics interest in players: how about Rondo for I.Thomas, Ben McLemore, expiring filler. Flip McLemore and Jeff Green to the Jazz for Gordon Hayward+cheap expiring filler? Maybe include the Clippers 1st?
J.Sullinger, V.Faverani
K.Olynyk, J.Sullinger
G.Hayward, J.Young
A.Bradley, M.Smart
I.Thomas, M.Smart
I'm trying to tank still with that big man group but the wings/guards might be too good to allow it. Might just want to see if we can add a legit big to try and compete for a playoff spot, as much as I dislike those 8th seed type teams. Better be on a 1 year deal though, as I want that cap space in tact. Asik really would've fit.
Pretty nice young core with still loads of cap space in the off-season after dumping Wallace by including pick(s). Maybe we could even get SAC to take him on for expirings in the Rondo deal.

If Houston loses out on Carmelo, Lowry etc. I could see them looking at Rondo but I would think Ainge would have to settle for a little less. Maybe New Orleans pick, Capela and one future protected pick plus Lin and filler.
I could be wrong but I just see Morey as a tough negotiator with lots of different options to improve his team. So it begs the question of why he should pay so much for post ACL Rondo when he has Howard and Harden to at least attract good FAs for pretty much just cap space.
I do think Houston is a pretty good fit for Rondo in that they may be able to get him to sign for an extension at a more reasonable price than most teams. Ainge looks pretty good by sending Rondo off to a contender.

If Morey strikes out in all the big FAs you'd have to think Ainge would have some leverage. Morey will likely be made to eat some extra contract from Boston as well as offering up future compensation.

That's the type of return you can get at the deadline though. I'd rather hold onto him in the hopes of getting a better return than take that kind of deal before the season starts. The only concern I'd have would be Rondo winning us games and hurting our draft position (if next year is a tank year), but I don't think we had much of a problem doing that last year. Plus there is still a small sliver of hope that other major players become available due to injury/circumstance that we could then pair Rondo with another legit player by trading our young talent (especially if the kids impress early). And also the chance a pg gets injured and team's need gives Ainge leverage in a Rondo deal mid season.

Re: Trade Ideas Thread
It's not a bad fit to be perfectly honest.
PG Rondo
SG Harden
SF Parsons
PF Jones
C Howard
Assuming he struck out on everything else, Morey would have to take that pretty darn seriously, wouldn't he? Sure, he's a tough negotiator, but so is Danny.
If you can get, say, the NO pick, the 2015 NY 2nd, Capela, an unprotected future Houston pick, does that even get the conversation started? (I personally feel like Rondo should net more than that, but everyone on the trade board keeps telling me, surprise surprise, that I'm over-valuing my guys, so...)

Let's look at the contenders/fringe contenders for next year and if they would be interested in Rondo at the deadline if their PGs got hurt. This is a very lazy/quick analysis but I think most of it is on target.
1) SA -- Parker goes down for year...I think SA just looks for a cheaper replacement that can really shoot.
2) Miami -- bad fit.
3) OKC -- Westbrook goes down they are doomed and plus they can't afford to spend that much
4) LAC -- Paul goes down, they are doomed and Celtics have an incentive to not deal with Clippers since they own their 2015 1st round pick.
5) Houston -- maybe but Boston probably has more leverage in this off-season.
6) Golden State -- Curry goes down they are doomed.
7) Dallas only a contender with some great moves...maybe a possibility.
8) Portland -- fringe contender anyways so why bother if Lillard goes down.
9) Chicago (if Rose returns/Melo healthy) -- I wouldn't think Chicago would even be able to make a move that made sense.
10) Indiana If George Hill blew out his ACL or just played poorly and Indiana still wanted to try to compete next year, I don't think Boston would want to take on Hill's contract that ends after the 2016-17 season. Celtics would want to go with a younger PG. And I don't think Indiana adds enough sweetener for it to happen.
11) Memphis -- don't really see if working enough salary wise for Memphis to give up lots of assets as well.
I am not saying other teams wouldn't be interested... teams like Atlanda/Charlotte etc. may be interested but since they aren't title contenders, their willingness to pay a lot for a half year rental would not be too high.

If you trade Rondo to that smug ass without getting Parsons back; it's a failure. I don't even care what the market dictates, have some level of pride when dealing with that prick.

I'm way, way too curthroat to think that way. If we're not winning the title in a given year, I couldn't care less about handing it to any team not in LA or NY, IF they're willing to pay me well in return for it.

^ Yea, I'm saying anything less than Parsons isn't paying us well enough and Morey being a prick is just the tiebreaker, if need be.

Personally, I'm inclined to agree, if Hou isn't giving us a ransom in 1sts.
I'm just really spinning my wheels in the mud trying to make heads or tails of Rondo's value right now, when contructing trades.
Great player. Unproven since injury. One year left. Wants 100mil. Seems grumpy with us. So many factors...

My early forays on the trade board have taught me that the rest of the league's fans view Jeff Green as, at best, a completely neutral acquisition. They might take him for free, or send back an equally neutral player with an equally unpalatable contract. Certainly not an unprotected 1st and a player of any kind of value.
Not saying I necessarily agree with this. Our attempts to figure a way to upgrade Jeff have shown that there are not many clearly better players at the position that have any chance of becoming available.

I don't think it's likely, that's why I said small sliver of hope, but it's a possibility (as is a team like Atlanta/Charlotte getting involved, and a lot of other possibilities as the NBA landscape changes). I don't think there is anything in that Houston package mentioned above that I'd be upset about missing out on because I held onto Rondo too long. Capela (late first this year), NO pick (middling at best) and future firsts that will be in the 20s. I'd rather hold onto Rondo and hope that something unlikely happens and then move him at the deadline for a similar package if nothing does. Even if you lose out on one or two pieces (say they keep Capela), you're really not losing much compared to what you could gain if Rondo plays his value back up and things fall the right way.
If that's the kind of package Rondo is going to bring back where none of those pieces have any real likelihood of ever being as good as Rondo, I'd just pass entirely (you could get something similar in a sign and trade next offseason even).
That's just not a good return and even if there aren't any other potential options/suitors out there at the moment, I couldn't bring myself to sell so low.
