Let's be real, people spent the last 48 hours sullying Derrick's character and integrity over something that didn't even happen. I'm sorry, but folks deserve to get called out for that. As was reported, Derrick and his camp had already reached out to Melo, there was no reason to believe he wasn't part of the recruiting efforts just because of a generic, throw away line about not recruiting. It's all good though, glad Derrick, Jo and Taj stepped up, hopefully we see Melo in a Bulls uniform.
That's a load of bull. People reacted to a very poorly timed comment directly from his mouth. I firmly believe that all that outrage helped get him into the meetings today. Rose was killed all over the internet and radio for his comments. Now all of us here are Bulls fans, and everyone here wants what's best for this team - and what's best for the team is that Rose is part of it (on and off the court). To suggest that people get some sort of high from "sullying his character" is such a bad misrepresentation of this fan base. We're a passionate group. Let's not turn on each other with stupid accusations just because there is a disagreement.
Now we've heard that Rose not only showed up to the dinner, possibly worked out for Melo, and dropped by dinner. That's outstanding news and shows that he is firmly invested in the team's future. It's great to see that he made that effort, and it very well could be the difference.

"Gibson's presence is also significant because it has previously been reported that the Bulls would attempt to trade Gibson in order to create additional salary-cap space for Anthony. However, the Bulls stressed to Anthony that in order to be a legitimate title contender it is important for the club to retain both Gibson and Jimmy Butler.
According to a source, Anthony wants both players to stay even if it means that Anthony will have to sign for significantly less than the maximum the Knicks can offer, $129 million over five years. Coincidentally, the Knicks essentially gutted their roster to acquire Anthony from the Denver Nuggets in February of 2011, and Anthony realizes that he would have to make financial sacrifices if he wants to pursue a title with the Bulls."
So Melo is legit about taking a pay cut.

Pretty much this.
It's bad he couldn't that out beforehand but hey he showed up so that's great.

If the package coming back is something centered around Boozer, Snell and a future 1st, I probably just let Melo walk if I'm Phil.
