and frankly I don't get it. NY isn't winning a damn thing for the next 10 years if Melo goes back there. Do they all just want to cling to a star name? I thought it was about winning championships.

It's one thing if a small market team so desperately wanted to hold on to their star. But NY? C'mon, they should be
1. smart enough to realize they need a rebuild
2. understanding that just having Melo does absolutely nothing for them

No matter what happens I am really proud of what the team was able to pull together. I honestly don't know when I've really felt this good about the organization from top to bottom. I think the Rose thing was just huge too, that guy laid it all out on the line. I mean that was just remarkable and amazing what he did, no qualifications no caveat needed. No matter what happens with Melo I think yesterday just really galvanizes the team and puts some of the BS behind us. One thing I will say is if Melo does play us you are probably going to see Noah start to approach FA's a little more like Rose and some serious bunker mentality and a team with a huge chip on their shoulder. So even if we don't get Melo I think yesterday was just a great day for the Bulls.

Also if we do the S&T I kind of think Mirotic is gone. With bringing Taj to the meeting they are saying he is their guy and I don't think Mirotic is interested in coming over to be a backup. If that's the case he may rather go to NY, get a starting role and a chance to show what he can do. Melo may be at the stage where he's all about winning but Mirotic is at the stage where he probably wants minutes and to be able to prove himself. I'd love to keep him but we're going to have to send someone and it may actually be best for everyone.

Essentially after today I don't think we need to worry about what $$$ we can offer Melo. Melo would have probably told the Bulls what minimum figure he expects. Now its up to the Bulls FO to make it happen. Once the Bulls tell Melo, "Yep we can do that", its up to Melo if he wants to sign with us or not. Who knows maybe the Bulls have already told Melo we can arrive at the figure he wants and now its up to him if he wants to take it or not.

well, somebody on our board said Windhorst said it on Sportscenter. Then....silence in the media world. Needs to be clarified. Did one of our people hear that wrong and report it wrong?

Krispy Kreme did report that this morning. I heard it as well. I thought it was strange that he just threw that in there in the midst of discussing the situation. The ESPN anchorman did not even question him on it or ask for more info.

This dude was like:

Melo had dinner with the Bulls reps, they viewed the new facility, Rose was there, oh and NY offered Melo the max. I'm going on a donut run now you want anything?

and the anchorman was all

Cool. Thanks talk to you later.

If Melo went to the Knicks and said I want to sign with the Bulls, you really think the Knicks would refuse a trade centered around Mirotic, Snell, multiple first round picks and expiring contracts of Boozer and Dunleavy?

It's a power play IMO, a sign and trade could absolutely worked out. It's not going to come down to that either way cause Melo is just going to go back to NY outright but a refusal of taking Boozer is just silly IMO.

I'm glad he's doing Houston and Dallas on the same day. They can't spend anywhere near the time we had with him. I'd imagine Houston would get him till about lunch time, and then it's Cuban's turn.

That's not entirely true, Legler made a plea to Melo at the end of their free agency show last night to go to Chicago and become the star of stars that he can be.

Based on what's been said, I'm trying to infer the Bulls' plan.

-Rose, Noah, and Taj were in the pitch. They are untouchable.
-McDermott is Thibs' guy (based on post-draft chatter). He is untouchable.
-No mention of Butler or Mirotic. They are available for S&T.
-If Boozer is amnestied, Bulls have $11.12M in cap space. Other moves can get more.

So, if Phil refuses to take on Boozer, Bulls can offer a S&T of Butler, Dunleavy, Amundson, Brewer, and James for Melo at $20.33M. Mirotic and 2015 1st rounder as possible sweetners. That's my wildly speculative and optimistic yet possible outcome.
Honesty is my only excuse.

Also, Bulls saying they "only" have $15m of cap to spend is just them keeping their cards close to their chest.

I'm sure it was posted - its more than an hour old - but have we discussed Broussards tweet that CHi has shown interest in Stephenson? Lance apparently turned down a 5yr 44 million deal from Indy.

I think we'll laugh off other teams' dog and pony shows as amateurish, regardless of whether they actually are.

And nobody can't say we weren't original since we went first. If anything from these other teams looks close to what we did, well then they're just copying from us!

I think I might stay off Realgm for a couple of days so I can live in blissful ignorance after the Bulls meeting so I don't freak out. :)

Very good chance he won't be a good rebounder or defender

If melo chooses Chicago we have no time for a youth movement. We need vets so we can compete year 1 of melo arrival. We don't have time for mirotic to develop into something.

Dont be ridiculous. Taj is 28, Noah is near 30 and Melo is 30. Thats an aging frontcourt. If you want to compete long term you bring in fresh, young legs and meld them in alongside your older guys. Thats how its done.

Some people have me so gassed up on McDougie that I'm now going bananas. There was one guest Hoops writer for some website saying on NBC national radio last night that he would have taken McDougie #2 in the draft. That 10 teams are going to regret on passing on him. He is a future all star. And the host said he should have gone #7. Not that they know anything. But I'm all gassed up over here. I watch his youtubes, and I'm losing my breath watching his hesitation dribbles, his release, and touch. I'd be scared to deal him to the Knicks ATM.
