no you can stretch and raise the contract but not stretch and lower the contract if that makes any sense

For example, Broussard came on this morning and threw around the 15 million figure to prove his point that Melo would more likely stay with NY because that is a drastic cut to what he could be making in NY. He even said that the Knicks have NO interest in taking Boozer back.

That's lazy reporting, as anyone who spends any amount of time on RealGM can attest. He didn't explore any of the other options that could happen, such as the Bulls finding a third team to take on Boozer. They also make Boozer sound like this total dead weight contract, which I don't believe he is.

The same can be said for some Real GM posters. Booz isn't total dead weight, and with his contract being an expiring, it will be very attractive in a variety of different scenarios.

blumeany wrote:This 'Boozer can't be traded' and 'NY doesn't want Boozer in a sign and trade' is utter nonsense and posturing. Boozer is a fine player and his contract can be flipped at the trade deadline or expired. He's not worth the contract, but he's also not a complete bum. I've seen plenty of complete bum-ass bums moved quite easily in similar situations.

Agreed. The bumslayer Boozer would easily get 15 and 10 with 36 min on a scrub team. No defense, but hey a double double.

And for some reason, I think he'd love NY. No pressure to win. Suits him nicely

More of the same.

Broussard is right about the $15 million (actually it's $15.8M) if the Bulls keep Rose, Butler, Taj, Noah and McDermott:

Anthony- $15,836,790
Rose - $18,862,876
Noah - $12,700,000
Butler - $2,008,748
Taj - $8,000,000
McDermott - $1,898,300
Roster charge ($507,336) x 7 = $3,551,352
Rip* - $333,334

Total: $63,200,000

Rose, Room MLE
Butler, vet min
Melo, McDermott
Taj, Bairstow
Noah, vet min

Does Noah's bonus become effective immediately or could it be spread out?

I understand that, if it's in his contract and he's already satisfied the requirement (here, it was First Team All NBA), then the bonus becomes likely and is added to the cap. I am not 100% absolutely positive on this, but I thought I would include it in order to be conservative.

The one thing that really worries me about Carmelo's decision is what the effect of leaving would have to the viewpoint of him from fans of NY.

NY was his most preferred destination back in 2011... he was able to successfully get his way to that team. He then energized the fan base.

If he chooses the Bulls... wouldn't the NYK fans boo him the rest of his career? Does he really want to deal with that...?

I'm worried. In the end, I think he would probably take not getting booed from his hometown fans.

I was on the Magic board the other day and they mentioned how they opened up all that capspace to maybe take contracts like Nash or Boozer. I remember a report a few days ago saying the Bulls have talked to 4 teams about taking Boozer. That could mean we have our 3rd trade partner ready and now we are waiting on Melo to say yes.

Correct me if I am wrong, but there really aren't many scenarios floating out there where a team wants to offload salary for capspace. Even LA doesn't make much sense as they can sign Melo directly and don't have a lot of assets to send with Nash unless they will include Randle (which seems doubtful).

Its been my experience that the simplest answer is the correct one and in this case, the simplest answer is that Orlando and Chicago are working together.

The casual fans wouldn't really boo him. They understand the team is garbage and would want Melo to move on.

Many Knick fans would boo but most NY aren't stupid. They know Melo is getting older & wants to win & are aware that their team isn't really positioned to win in the next 2-3 yrs.

I'd see there being a slight uproar but nothing compared to when Lebron left Cleveland.

That's what Lebron dealt with 2010 - Present. He gave up playing for his hometown to contend and now he's a 2 time champ.

Nope which is why when AA was traded it made it clear what they were up to. The Nelson dump was a respect thing from Orlando, but it gave them even more capspace. We could give them Boozer and some 1st and trade that TPE to NY and give them maybe a future 1st or 2nd for Melo and JR.

They don't have to deal with boozer, get a TPE they can use, and get out of the JR deal in which he has a player option for like 6mil.

CHICAGO -- The Chicago Bulls pulled out all the stops in the recruitment of Carmelo Anthony on the opening day of NBA free agency Tuesday, including the participation of Derrick Rose, who previously said he would not be part of a sales pitch to any free agent.

Rose declined comment as he left the United Center on Tuesday afternoon. A source termed the meetings, which included appearances from Joakim Noah, Taj Gibson and Rose, as "good." It's unclear how much each player spoke...
