Roster space?

Post#1 » by Entourage27 » Wed Jul 2, 2014 6:13 am

What happened with the team options on Harrelson Siva and Mitchell? Are they still on our roster?

And whats the word on Dinwiddie, can we hold onto his draft rights instead of signing him? Correct me if I'm wrong but wouldn't that save a roster spot?

The Pistons are log jammed and we need roster space to sign more free agents.

On a side note I think Gigi will get bought out after that Martin signing which would open a roster spot as well.

I know Siva's contract doesn't become guaranteed until after summer league, so they're taking that time to evaluate him. Not sure about Jorts' deal, but it's not guaranteed yet.

They have until late summer/early fall to sign Dinwiddie, so they aren't going to lock him up yet while they're making roster moves. They want to maintain roster flexibility.

So right now, the only players counting against the roster are Jennings, Smith, Drummond, KCP, Singler, Jerebko, Bynum, Datome, Meeks, and Martin. Add in Siva, Jorts and Dinwiddie and you have 13 roster spots, 2 more open.

And 1 spot is for Monroe

And what about Tony Mitchell?? That puts us at 15. Something needs to be done right now.

Andre Drummond, Greg Monroe, Josh Smith, Brandon Jennings, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Kyle Singler and Jerebko

Thats who Van Gundy listed as our core. He did not mention Bynum / Datome / Siva / Mitchell / Harrellson. I think Martin may make Datome obsolete, Dinwiddie (and especially Isaiah Thomas) may make Bynum obsolete. I wouldn't be surprised to see Bynum/Datome either bought out, sold along with a 2nd or waived via the stretch.

Right now we've got:

Jennings / Dinwiddie / Bynum / Siva
Meeks / KCP
Singler / Martin / Datome
Smith / Jerebko / Mitchell
Drummond / Monroe / Harrellson

I have a feeling that Siva,Gigi,Mitchell,Harrelson and bynum are all gone going into next season. I think our roster will look completely different in a few weeks. I wouldn't be surprised if both Monroe and Smith are gone also.

We should keep Datome. I know he's going to breakout at some point. Dude hasn't really had a chance to show what he's got.

We can't keep being complacent with guys who haven't done a thing. What's his ceiling? He needs to get bought out especially after the martin signing because we need roster spots to bring in actual productive role players that fits an actual role of need.

Our roster space may not seem like it but it's definitely a bigger deal then what other posters may believe. I don't want to see Gigi or Mitchell taking up space to hangout when there are still quality FA's who could help get us wins.
