I bet Houston scrambled to get their graphic designer to create something after seeing the Bulls

People predicted he wouldn't recruit because he specifically said he wouldn't. On several occasions.

Come on. The prediction part wasn't the problem. It was the reaction to his words by some of our "fans". I mean people actually spent (to my great pleasure, I might add, until it continued beyond the allotted allowance for silly arguments like that to run their course) about 10 pages in Melo thread 11, trying to convince us that DRose was nothing more than a thug felon, with a rapsheet. If that doesn't speak to agenda outside of "basketball reasons" I don't know what does. :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

I remember finding out 2010 leCramp's decision at midnight before the Decision show. Just wanted to check RealGM once more before I went to sleep and there, on the Wiretap, it was. He was going to choose Miami.

Oh yeah, Tom Penn has been trumpeting the Bulls this entire time. Awesome to hear. He said LeCramp and Melo should all go to the Bulls hahaha. Awesome to hear but unrealistic.

NY was his most preferred destination back in 2011... he was able to successfully get his way to that team. He then energized the fan base.

If he chooses the Bulls... wouldn't the NYK fans boo him the rest of his career? Does he really want to deal with that...?

I'm worried. In the end, I think he would probably take not getting booed from his hometown fans.

That's what Lebron dealt with 2010 - Present. He gave up playing for his hometown to contend and now he's a 2 time champ.

The differnece here is that LeBron tried for a few years to recruit his buddies to Cleveland. No one wanted to come. The closet he got was a broken down Shaq who was too far past his prime. But he made serious pitches to every FA in 2008 and 2009 to crickets.

This is actually the time Melo should be recruiting for the Knicks, and he's doing some 'spying' on the other top orgainzations which might be his version of recruiting for Phil.

But I agree that becoming a pariah in NYC and turning down a MAX deal seems insane for Melo.
The NYC media will destroy those guys if he leaves. I just can't see the wife and kid being OK with that, becoming pariahs in the city they seem to love. Would you want that?

I think yesterday was basically Melo giving Joakim the curteosy of a Bulls pitch but this was also his chance to explain to all those guys why he needs to stay in NYC despite the fact this would be a good fit. Instead of them reading stories in the press if/why he resigns in NYC - they will know exactly why and heard it from him directly yesteday.

The NBA has changed. Jo, Rose and Melo might be hanging at ASG for years to come. Carmelo will be in USA basketball with Thibs in a few weeks.

What doesn't jive with this is the sheer amount of time he spent with the Bulls. depending on whether he got any time w Noah Monday it was anything from a full (long) day to 1.5 days. And that's after a s**t-ton of backchannel communications w Thibs, Noah, Rose, etc. If it was truly as simple as you say, no need to do all that. In fact, that would make a lot more sense directed at HOU/DAL given that they all seem to have a couple hours each.

I mean of course we've seen this type of work in the past trying to lure FAs.....but you'd think Houston would have come up with something different directly after the Bulls doing it.
Im sure Melo thought it was clever yesterday....

Not to mention ours was much better and had a championship trophy.

Joe Cowley on The Herd just gave the Bulls a 30% shot.

KC Johnson is co-hosting on 87.7 The Game right now. Apparently he has already said the following:

Chicago Bulls Zone ‏@TheBullsZone 8m

"Yesterday was described to me as the 'Perfect day'" (K.C. Johnson on 87.7 TheGame)

If anyone has the ability to listen in, please let us know what is being said.

Quite frankly, we have no idea what Carmelo is actually considering. The rumors coming out right now don't seem to be particularly well sourced or strong. For all we know, he could be 100% set on Chicago or 100% set on NY.

During the draft Simmons blurted out something to the effect of "its our job at ESPN to push the big story!" I always thought that but was surprised to hear it so blatantly. I would not be surprised if ESPN is intentionally pushing rumors of Melo going to every team and changing the story daily just to drive interest and ratings.

if he is 100% on NY, then the only difference between him and Lebron is a TV show. The worst.

My thing is, if he is still consdering New York, and they are the last meeting for him, what is he expecting from them? He already knows they can't win this year, and he already knows their plans, so he must be looking for more money. That is, if he is still thinking about the Knicks as a possibility.

So, if he is keeping the Knicks as an option, waiting for the money to come up from them, then that must mean the money is very important to him. Because that's the only thing the Knicks have to offer. Otherwise, they would not be an option. Despite all the rhetoric about "winning". I think he's fugazi.

It seems like we're getting a lot of reports from the Bulls side of the meeting saying how well things went and that they feel good about their pitch, but we haven't really heard anything from Carmelo's side.
