Bwahahahaha. Not to be a homer, but that's hokey. It's one thing to display the title in reference to your team's history, it's another to photoshop him holding it like a schmuck.

Still doesn't get enough cap space for realistic offer, loses MLE which means Mirotic, and costs JR more money which makes him less likely to spend like it's "found money."
(Boozer's final year being paid by Knicks).

And if you got the stuff you've mentioned you'll see just how you bad you raped Chicago for an aging Carmelo Anthony.

But you won't.

If we get him we'll still have the majority of that stuff if not all of it. So I guess there's no way any of us will ever know who was right in this debate.

And I'm fine with that. :D

Edit: By the way, If a max contract is what it takes to make "Melo Happy" then this is not the place for him! That is the point we are all trying to stress to you Knicks fans.

you don't role out the red carpet like you do (or your organization did) for a aging player. Aging is hilarious. He had a dominant year last year and his numbers have only been trending up.

You don't do all that woowing to expect a guy to take 15 million per. That is just ridiculous.

I'm not in the market for buying Carmelo at his "happy" price. If he wants to win as much as he says then he knows what it will take to come here and do that. If max money (or close to max money) makes him happier then he also knows where to go and get that.

Sorry Melo, but you will not get both.

I recall him recently saying (paraphrasing) "I could retire today and I'm good financially, my FA options are going to come down to winning, money won't be an issue."

It's not like we're offering him the minimum, but if he wants to get closer to the max please just keep him in NY. We'll be fine.

You really can't compare 4 years to 5 years. You have to compare 4 to 4. Yeah, there's some risk that he doesn't get paid in year 5. But chances are that he will be making significant money. If he's still playing at a high level then, a full 20. So it would be a $40 million dollar difference...

Ifyou factor in potential increased endorsements due to the buzz of a move and more projected success (because the Knicks are starting over and who knows what they could get next year in FA - possibly striking out like in 2010, pre-Melo) along with taxes and some other factors (cost of living), that 40 million might not actually mean a lot in real terms with respect to his earnings.

You know how crazy expensive NY is, especially at the super high end. Chicago is way cheaper (for a giant city that you can drive and hour and still be in).

I don't know how Melo will look at it but if he is healthy, he should opt out after 3 years. He would probably be able to ink a relatively good 5 year deal at age 33.

The issue with NY's extra money is the security it represents. If he has a bad injury, he still gets his money. If he is healthy and has a normal Paul Pierce type decline in his 30's, the difference in money is rather small.

.....

I feel I should repeat this every once in a while. NY is the favorite for Melo. In the off chance that he wants to come to Chicago, Knick fans are drastically overestimating their leverage.

Couldn't he sign a contract with an ETO after 2 years? If so if he does that would we have his bird rights? Assuming we do couldn't we "make up" for the lost money to start with a max declining contract for the following 3 or 4 years?

Me too. 9 hours with the Bulls and Houston/Dallas in the same day? Bulls and Melo knew the numbers on the table BEFORE they met. Yesterday was a formality.

Butler, Dunleavy, Mirotic, and a 1st. Sign Pau with the MLE.

I like Taj being on the recruitment process.

This Bulls team is a kind of a brotherhood, based on work and respect for the club, players, staff and fans. Everybody here works hard and are true competitors, everybody's unselfish and works the the best for the team and this is why Taj was there, because he is one of the leaders in the locker room now that Deng's gone. Melo must be impressed by the way Noah, Taj and Rose relates to each other and their commitment to the Bulls so yes, I liked Taj being there.

Now it's up to Melo if he really wants to compete (in NY it will take at least 3 years to make it, just take a look at the Nets). By that time Melo will be 33 and if he's ringless the possibilities to reach an NBA title seems to be short.

The main rival here are the Rockets who I think have a decent shot on making a s&t with the Knicks with Lin's contract.

I just hope someone overpays Parsons (hello Lakers? Suns? Hornets?) so the Rockets loses both of them

Rocket's pitch

GM: Hey Melo we've been thinking. LeBron is so great right? How would he look in a Rocket's uniform? You think we have a shot? LeBron is the best player in the world, and we would love to steal him away from Miami. Oh and guess what? If we get him. There is a chance that we might actually want you. So what do you think? Can we get LeBron?

Also if Melo didn't like what he heard after the UC meeting he could have bailed on dinner.

Well atleast we know we have better photoshopping skills than the Rockets..

Maybe Dwight can do a private work out for Melo and show him his post move (not a typo)

If Melo wants money, he's staying with the Knicks. Period. Bulls can't compete with the Knicks dollars and aren't going to gut eveything because that defeats the purpose - having a contending team.

If Melo wants to win more than money, then the Knicks have very little leverage, though they probably will still get back a couple of first round picks just to give Melo more money and give the Bulls more financial flexibility.

That would basically equal 73.8 million in total salary over 4 years. If Melo is willing to take approx. 60 million less guaranteed over 5 years over that then that is a risk I am more willing to take. I really don't think Melo wants out of NY that bad (moving his family and kid) from a city he likes to lose out on 60 million guaranteed dollars. Now if you can get that closer to 30 million guaranteed now you would be on to something. But you would need to get him over 90+ million over 4.

Will it entice Melo to accept lower contract by offering 5 year contract with an ETO after three year? Gives Melo optionality to sign one more big contract when he is 33, and is a hedge for Rose's health. Melo still takes risk in that if his play declines, or is injured, he will be guaranteed less than he can get with the Knicks. ETO's are really valuable for players. I think CBA allows ETO after 3 years??

I don't think we'll give up on Butler AND Mirotic/McBuckets. I think one of Mirotic\McD, alongside Boozer and 1 or 2 first's will be enough. We still might have to move MDJ somewhere.

If we send Mirotic we can have Pau with the MLE I think, as long as he doesn't want to sign for the Heat or the Thunder.

And if we lose Butler we'll be needing a starting SG.

New CBA says we can only offer 4yrs in S&T with 4.5% increases.
Not commenting on ETO just saying years.
