Pacers Agree To Three-Year Deal With Damjan Rudez

Post#1 » by SmashMouthRod » Wed Jul 2, 2014 3:12 pm

Rudez will receive a portion of the Pacers' mid-level exception.

Rudez, who is 6-foot-10, plays the coveted NBA stretch-four position.

I wonder why did they sign this guy? and where is he going to play? Isnt Cope a stretch 4? Maybe a trade is coming. But if not this has the feel of a bad move.

I hope he's a stretch 5.

His game is closer to SF than PF.Basically poor man Gallinari, he can run well in transition and finish in traffic, better 3pt shooter than Gallo IMO.Brings outside shooting, usually spot-up shooter, decent quickness, not so great wingspan for his size, surprisingly good ball-handling skills for man his size, he can bang down-low with bigger opponents.Offensive spark from the bench is probably his role in Pacers.

well if he is a 3, then he's part of the Turner replacement. perhaps we'll offer Butler a coaching position although you do need at least 13.

I guess he's a 3 point gunner? That's good I guess, though it seems like he's a double up with Cope already on roster. Maybe Cope is gone? Or maybe we just learned the value of 3 point shooters after almost blowing it in the first round of the playoffs last year against Atlanta?

Got really surprised about this move, this is the first time I saw his name on the news again since more than 2 years ago. But I think this is a good signing.

I've watched some clips of him years ago and he is a legit shooter. He's in the mold of Turkoglu, maybe Jason Kapono at worst, but he's got some decent ball handling for his size. Not really a physical force inside, just more of a perimeter player. That makes him more of a SF than a PF.

I think Cope is a PF who can occassionally play three. He's too slow for the other SF's defensively. Larry could be thinking of playing him and Cope together at the three and four, just like how the Hawks used their shooting big men against us.

If this compilation means anything, we can expect nothing less than awesome:

Honestly, I think they're lacking bigs right now and are looking for someone that can be an odd change of pace upfront.
Copeland will be moved this summer. Possibly in conjunction with Scola's partial guarantee?

Hello there, Zaragoza native here, been a season ticket holder for as long as Rudez as been playing for our club and I'm here to rain in your parade- somewhat.

What he's good at: He can knock down a whole bunch of 3's in no time (specially tricky corner shots at which he seems to excel) and can singlehandedly change the course of a game, at least here in Europe where he has the 'rank' to do so. He's good at creating plays for himself in the post too as he's big, coordinated and can be very quick. He also can defend the 3 and 4 due to his size- more on this on the 'bad' part.

What he's bad at: He simply switches off sometimes. I'd be tempted to say he won't do so in the NBA since it's a once in a lifetime opportunity for him but players with that mindset find it hard to change tracks so far in his career. Which leads me to his main drawback according to pretty much 99% of our fanbase, he'll defend "when you get a girlfriend", as the funny D'Antoni sig states. He's simply not that kind of player so you can forget about a 3&D kind of guy, he's a specialist (admitedly very good at what he does) but I don't think you'll find use for him outside of playing limited minutes.

So, long story short, dude can ball, but his work ethic & mindset are important drawbacks. Would love for him to be a smashing success for you guys tho as he genuinely seems to be a cool & kind dude and he's been very important for us. Second guy we lose this year to the NBA after Bucks took Giannis Antetokounmpo and it's kind of flattering for such a low budget team.

The article said he shot 44% from 3pt range. Looks like we may be parting ways with Scola.

Pure 3. A little over $1m per for 3 years, and apparently very little of it is guaranteed at all (and only part of this year is). Will probably play a platoon at backup SF with Solo Hill in an offense/defense switch.

Looks like Bird is forcing Vogel to play some shooters this next year with the additions of Miles and this guy.

I hope this move works but Saranus keeps coming to mind. All we heard was how good he was & he was garbage.

The investment here is minuscule compared to Sarunas, so there's that? But fair enough. I completely understand.

at one point he was considerd lotto pick by nbadraft net. he had great potential but his pasive nature made him average player on europian level. he is bit mechanical and tweener betwen 3 and 4. to me he is better at sf. hope i'm wrong but his averge will be DNP

When was that? He went undrafted in 2008. Was nbadraft.net even doing locks back then?

I must admit these highlight vids are pretty impressive. Not sure Vogel will use him if he doesnt defend. Although I think his talent could make the bench better offensively.
