Miguel Castro with 5 K's already through 2. He had his first SS trouble last start. Hopefully, he's rebounding tonight. Roemon Fields is keeping up his SB every game rate with his 16th in the first inning. He's 16 for 18 and is OPSing at a rate of .799 against RHP.

Impressive performance by the pitchers of the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes(catchy name!), the team Vancouver is playing tonight. In 4 innings they've:

Walked 5, hit 5 by pitch, balked, and thrown a wild pitch.

That'll lead to 10 runs on only 5 hits and 1 error.

It also re-unites him with his buddy DJ Davis.

It appears Emilio Guerrero is in CF for Dunedin tonight.

Andy Burns HRs in back-to-back games. After a terrible April, his numbers are creeping up. His numbers against lefties are particularly good .861 OPS. In June his OPS was .773.

Pompey finally has an average in New Hampshire after getting his first hit in 21 plate appearances - a triple - yesterday. So far he's racked up a 3:3 K/BB ratio and a stolen base for good measure.
Nick Nurse recounting his first meeting with Kawhi:
“We could have gone forever. (Raptors management) kept knocking on the door and I was like, ‘A couple more minutes.’ Because we were really into it."

Evan Smith promoted to Bluefield. 3rd round pick Nick Wells makes his pro debut in the GCL today. 6th round pick Grayson Huffman also assigned to GCL.

Interesting piece I read this morning - and which I am trying to find again now that I'm home from the game: Sanchez has changed his arm slot, with apparent success, and AA believes he could help at the major league level later in the season.

Rich Griffin mentioned this in his noon hour chat. He said that Randy St Claire identified this in Buffalo.

BP did an interesting redraft of the 2011 draft.

They had the Jays taking Henry Owens in Beede's slot. With the following pick, they had the Cards taking Daniel Norris. Here's what they said about him.

Explanation: Lefties with this kind of stuff and this kind of ceiling are few and far between. Last year this would have been a much more adventurous pick, but Norris has really started to put it together. I also considered Blake Treinen, Matt Barnes, and Kyle Crick. I toyed with the idea of the safe college bat in C.J. Cron as well, but Norris has the most impact potential of that group.

Pompey went 0-3 with 2 BB's, a SB, a CS and an outfield assist.

He's 1 for 21 in AA so far but there's nothing to be concerned about, he's not striking out too much(just a 11% K rate), he's drawing walks(19%BB rate) and he's stealing bases when he gets on.

That's the kind of cold streak that you can live with.

I would be very surprised if Sanchez is not in the Jays rotation at some point in August (or earlier), either due to injury replacement (hopefully not) or taking innings away from Hutchison and Stroman (extra rest). The Jays spent an entire off-season doing absolutely nothing, so I'm completely prepared to hear "Sanchez coming up and Morrow healthy is like adding two pitchers at the deadline...". Honestly, I'd be fine with that, as long as they find a way to improve 2B and the bench.

He has a ridiculous ~65% GB rate on balls in play, that's bound to normalize before too long.

Both Cecil and Delabar had clean innings in relief last night, so that augers well.

If we could get 2013 Cecil and Delabar back, that would be two huge additions in themselves.

Patrick Murphy made his pro debut today and only managed 1 out. Gave up 5 hits a walk and 4 earned runs. His lone out came by strikeout.
