Melo is absolutely the last thing they need on that roster.

They don't.

They want LeBron.

You do know that Melo is in Texas to talk about signing with the Rockets today, right?

They are going to pitch a "Big 5" to Melo. Melo, Howard, Parsons, Harden and another big time free agent (most likely Lowry) if Melo gives them a verbal. They also have a deal lined up with Philly to take Lin off their hands.

No.

It is way down from the 80's which was insane. When Benji got shot it was I think like 1300 cases that year. Then it got a lil better but we are still the highest in the country.

they'd rather win in the short term and lose out in the long

1. If I were a Knicks fan, I'd want Melo to take a pretty heavy discount. I'd want Phil to reboot the team. They are finally at a place where they can do that. But then again, I'm not what you'd call Anthony's biggest fan. I don't believe in him as a franchise cornerstone you can build around. Its a little different in Chicago because of the moves we made, and the existing cast that seems to fit him well. But I'd never build a team around Carmelo Anthony as the starting point.

2. That said, won't they still have a buttload of capspace next year even if they do max him out?

To that point:

If the Knicks gave Anthony a maximum contract, he'd be owed $25.3 million for the 2015-16 season. The roster could change, but here's where the Knicks would stand based on current contracts for the summer of 2015:

Anthony $25.3 million
Jose Calderon $7.4 million
J.R. Smith (likely opt-in) $6.4 million
Pablo Prigioni $1.7 million
Tim Hardaway Jr. $1.3 million
1st-round draft pick and six minimum salaries: $5 million

Total = $47.1 million; Projected cap space: About $18 million.

Enter the Bulls with this sign-and-trade scenario. They send Carlos Boozer, Mike Dunleavy, Tony Snell and the nonguaranteed contracts of Ronnie Brewer, Mike James and Lou Amundson to New York for Anthony and Smith. In a separate deal, the Bulls could trade Anthony Randolph for Prigioni. Throw in a future first-round pick if it helps. Boozer, Dunleavy, Randolph and Snell are under contract for one more season, which leaves the Knicks with this group on the books:

Calderon $7.4 million

Hardaway $1.3 million

1st-round draft pick and nine minimum salaries: $4.8 million

Total = $13.5 million. Projected cap space: More than $50 million in a summer when the free agent list could include Kevin Durant, Kevin Love, LaMarcus Aldridge, Al Jefferson, Paul Millsap, among others. The Knicks also get to keep their own first-rounder in 2015. Which is a better scenario for Phil Jackson? -Daily Herald

That offer above is similar to the knicks guy coming over here saying he wants mirotic, McDermott, butler, and 3 first rounders. It is ridiculous to think we would just take crap back and "maybe" get a 1st rounder back? seriously?

Also the FA class is wrong. Durant isn't a FA in 2015-16 he is the following year. And Love and Aldridge aren't making it to FA and we all know that.

So basically you cleared us cap space so we can sign Al Jefferson. The knicks future looks bright...

Or maybe yes. 2014 is the least murderous year in Chicago in 50 years.

Oh yes the 80's. The good old days when Chicago would give out "accurate" numbers of shootings/murders in the city.

for Melo and LaLa, IL has a flat rate of 5%, NY would be 8.98%. So on their overall income it's pretty significant.

That approx 4% difference could be quite a lot of money. Let's say together they make $50 million per year from basketball, LaLa and endorsements, investments, etc. This is where the state tax is huge for a power couple like them.

It could be as much as a couple of million dollars less in taxes in Chicago than in NYC.

the only way Melo is going to Houston is that if the Rockets can convince LeBron to go to Houston with Dwight. Then Melo would S&T for Harden so Houston would have a big 3 of LeBron, Melo, and Howard. But other than that I don't see Melo taking his family to Houston to play with Harden. Doesn't make much sense.

Pretty much seems like it is NY or CHI or a team LeBron and Melo want to team up together with.

Yeah I agree the numbers are played with. The 90's were the high watermark though it appears.

Don't want your kids living in Chiraq- Well we've had multiple successful people and our like the 2nd or 3rd biggest city. The biggest person I've heard from Houston Beyonce.

It's cold- Well it's hot as hell in Houston and Melo's from NY he don't care about the cold.

We got a big mall- Well guess what we do to and we have multiple ones plus navy pier plus the Sear Tower.

This guy is a straight up joke.

If I'm an athlete, I look at Houston and think there must be something wrong behind the scenes there. Every year it seems they go after the big fish, reel in one or two..or three. And what do you know - they can't pass the first round?

Not only that, they are very disloyal to their players - publicly stating they'd ship Harden away a year after grabbing him, throwing all the money in the world at Asik and Lin and casting them off. Hell, they have Lin's number given away already. It's pathetic.

Compare that to the team atmosphere the Bulls surely presented yesterday (and have since Thibs arrived) and it's a no-brainer.

Now that i think about it you're right they treated both those guys like garbage after screwing over their original teams. I mean at least we gave Boozer 3 years before we truly disliked him as fans and the FO.

How does that work financially?

And how does that work on the basketball court? Everyone gets 10 shots a game?

The key point here. The Bulls have other options. No way they have a gun to their head, even if they love the idea of Melo. The Bulls have already indicated they have limits. Its not Melo or bust for the Bulls.

Its Melo or bust for a championship imo..
