Spurs Agree To Two-Year Deal With Bryce Cotton

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Wed Jul 2, 2014 4:17 pm

Undrafted free-agent guard Bryce Cotton of Providence has reached agreement on a partially guaranteed two-year contract with the San Antonio Spurs, league sources told RealGM.

The deal is expected to be formally signed on Wednesday, and the agreement calls for the second season to become guaranteed should Cotton make the roster out of training camp, sources said. Cotton will also play for the Spurs in summer league.

Despite multiple draft offers in which an organization would stash him overseas, Cotton rejected the opportunities and fielded interest that came down to the Spurs and Dallas Mavericks.

Cotton, a gritty, accurate outside shooter, averaged 21.8 points and 5.8 assists in his senior season at Providence. The world champion Spurs sustained injury to their free agent, Patty Mills, who could be out most of next season.

He's probably just a extra body. The Spurs are stacked at the wings even if Patty Mills will be out for some time, but the thing about the Spurs is they are always prepared and if there's talent, they will sign that player on the team no matter what.

PG=Tony Parker, Corey Joseph, Patty Mills
SG=Danny Green, Manu Ginobili, Marco Belinelli
SF=Kawhi Leonard, Kyle Anderson, Austin Daye

Spurs keep winning. I don't understand how this dude was not drafted. I think Cotton and Sean Kilpartick are among the best undrafted. I wonder who will get Kilpatrick...wish the Knicks would pick him up so he could play for the home team.

Never heard of him, but just looked at his highlight vid, whoa. Looks like a baller, looks better than Mills.

The guy is all the way legit. Surprised he didn't get drafted, but of course the Spurs found him. Like they always do.
You wait all the way until he dribbles to the 3-point line to grab him, so that's obviously a tough one, tough play. I saw coach [Tom] Thibodeau was just shaking his head."

Spurs always finds gem in the rough. The impact may not be immediate, but sooner than later things falls into place. A great system that brings the best of anybody. Example is Gary Neal, he was relevant when he was with SA, but has since dwindled down after bolting out.

You would think, given their fairly good track record of finding and using role players, i.e Danny Green, Patty Mills, Diaw. Just this year that Austin Daye would have fared better given his skill set.
