He wouldn't HAVE to give it up. Usually players have to pay other players to get their numbers. I don't think it's the biggest thing (re: Melo), but I'm sure he's smart enough to see that it's disrespectful.

Yeah there are a ton of teams with cap space. Utah has a lot* and has been friendly with our FO in the past (we signed Boozer with a S&T from them to give them a big TPE, they claimed Murphy off waivers to help us get out of the luxury tax).

We could send Boozer and the Sac pick to Utah, our pick next year to the Knicks, and the Knicks could send back Melo at $21M to us. They get a big trade exception and a pick (maybe Mirotic or McDermott as well).

* -- Utah may have to match a max contract offer for Hayward. I'm not sure if they want to do that, but even if they do, I think they should have enough space to take back Boozer. They may need to cut some of their non-guaranteed salary to make it work (or include them in the trade), but it should be doable. There's also Philly and Orlando with a lot of space and I think Atlanta now as well after the Salmons trade.

Even Morey doesn't have special powers that let him circumvent the salary cap. Only way it hapens is if Lowry & Melo agree to split 21 million.

Here is the thing though... that Asik trade Houston made with New Orleans has not finalized yet. Per inside sources there COULD be more to that trade. Or it might open up ground for a SnT in this crazy Melo/Lowry scenario. Not saying it's probable but there is a slight chance for all this to go down.

Thats because NO needs to clear salary out before they can finalize the deal. Do you think Houston is going to renege on the deal they agreed to with NO? Or are you suggesting that Toronto and NY are going to S&T Lowry and Melo for Lin and Asik?

This is incorrect. Both Houston and New Orleans can fold their agreed to trade into a three team deal where the Rockets can receive a S&T'd Lowry or Carmelo.

So is Butler going to be on the move for Melo? Seems Noah, Rose, Taj are talked about as the "core" with no mention of Butler, at least in recent articles.

That's what I initially thought but someone posted an article that Jimmy is part of the core. No idea but I like the idea of a 3 team S&T where we get Melo for magic beans.

I'm telling you, Dwight Howard has a way of turning you off.

When I met him during the lockout, one of the first things I said to him was, "so you must really be missing playing right now" and his answer was, "Nah, not really. Now I have time to explore other things."

Genuinely curious. How did you meet him? Part of your job? Or did you just run into him somewhere?

It was part of my job. Can't talk about it too much, but I work in Hollywood and he was interested in getting into acting. I'm not in casting, but our casting department knew I was really into basketball and asked me to join them.

So I have this script I wrote. It's kind of a passion project. I'd love to get it in front of the right people.

What's keeping the Bulls from amnestying or trading Boozer? I mean, if the reports are true that Melo turned down $15 million a year from the Bulls, then why not just clear the extra cap space?

I honestly think Melo would go to the Bulls if they freed up more cap room. Bulls are the best team for Melo. I don't see a sign and trade happening unless the Bulls can free up more than the $15 million they have in space. Knicks can just tell Melo to sign with a team out west who has cap room like the Lakers.
