We all know Lin would change his number to accommodate melo if they were on the same team.

Obviously you say this, you want him in Chicago. The reality is that Lin hasn't played up to his contract, so why would he expect his employer to be happy with him?

He's played up to the 5 mil per year they've paid him so far. Now for the 15 mil this season...I doubt he earns that. Nobody put a gun to Morey's head to sign him to that ridiculous offer sheet.

This is not even the same thing. I'm sure rockets like Lin, but he clearly is not part of the rockets plans in the future. I suppose you think trading a player would be considered disrespectful as well.

People are making too much of a big deal about this.

Whether he is part of the future plans or not, currently he is with the team and that is his number, if they don't want him on the team they should trade him.

Rockets fans should really notice how they are alone in defending their theme on this... Really can't this make u realize the homerism?

I'm not the biggest Lin fan and its understood that Melo in Houston means bye bye Lin, but something like this shouldn't happen.
"Morey decided in 2007 that Steve Francis was to be the "franchise player" of the Rockets only to play what... 5 games? Morey didn't think Marc Gasol was worth a look that year,"

Beverley worst than Lin? LOL GTFO

The only thing Beverly has over Lin is defense. Do you even notice how bad the Rocket's offense is when Harden is on the floor? No ball movement and passes to his teammates the last second before the shot clock expires. Beverly's skills as a playermaker is NOTHING compared to Lin. Do me a favor and look up the definition of a point guard.

So Lin is the definition of a PG? He is overrated and LOF's like you overrated. I would rather have Beverley and his defense than Lin 10 times out of 10.

He plays under control, drives to the cup, hits the open man, can knock down the open shot. Does a good job running the offense and running the break. He's not your textbook PG, but he fits the bill.

There's a reason Linsanity happened, because he ran D'Antoni's system and it worked. It only works if the players buy in though, which didn't happen with Melo or Kobe. Suprising, I know.

Did patrick Beverley make a big deal when he changed his number (for Howard) from 12 to 2?

Maybe Lin didn't play as well as the Rockets hoped, but that doesn't mean he doesn't warrant their respect. For one thing he didn't pout and throw a fit like Asik when Beverley took his starting spot. He's been a professional throughout his whole time in Houston.

He has exceeded expectations of a 5M/year player, he has played on par with the 8M guys despite coming off the bench. If you average out the contract, that would equate to 8M per year which he's meeting quite comfortably.

People that harp on the 15M poison pill year are selectively criticizing without engaging the bigger picture.

Wahh I'm getting paid millions, wahh my team wants to upgrade their team, wahhhh.

Can you really blame them, they want Melo and it'll cost them Lin to do it. I would have done the same thing if it increased my chances for Melo but I probably would have told Lin about it prior to doing it. It's a business so no hard feelings here but we are courting Melo and you guys wear the same number.

It was pretty obvious that Lin was a 5mi/year player at the time they sign that bizarre contract.

He's making more money than Conley.

If you give 8.5mi to a player that's worth 5mi, you better expect him to not "play up to his contract".

I'm tired of GMs obviously overpaying and them complaining about bad contracts.
