I might be excited if that guy got rings running the Bulls, or any organization. But does anyone think Jerry West or Jerry Krause were deferring to Phil on personnel?

Good.

If the bulls were in the finals recently then melo could make the argument that he is the piece to put them over the top.

That makes no sense. A team doesn't have to have been in the Finals to become a Finals favorite by adding a superstar. Finals teams virtually never add superstars.

The Knicks have been a mess the last year admittedly. However we just changed regimes. You cannot overlook the fact that the coach and mastermind with the most rings ever is running our franchise.

I don't overlook it. When he signed on, I immediately put the Knicks back in the driver's seat, between Phil's cache and the extra money.

You guys have own way more games the last 2 years than you should of thibs has done an amazing job but is he seriously better than pjax?

He's infinitely better, considering that Phil Jackson isn't the Knicks' coach.

Of all teams you should give us credit on that one

I give you credit that Phil's reputation and importance will be a factor in Melo's decision. I think it matters to him. Had the Knicks not hired him, I would have given the Knicks zero chance at resigning Melo. As it stands, I view them as the clear favorite.

What do rings have to do with anything in this context? Look at it objectively, Chicago has been on another level compared to the Knicks just the past 4 years. The Bulls, with their team and their front office, have shown a remarkable degree of consistency, stability, and have managed to maintain a certain level of performance regardless of circumstances, injuries, etc.

The Knicks have just been a complete mess. If they're not trading half the roster away one year, they're firing a coach in another or somehow still not managing to make the playoffs in a historically awful eastern conference

He's obviously excited by the fact that the guy that helped Chicago get all their rings is now running the Knickerbocker organization. Knicks fans can't help but at least be slightly encouraged.

Phil had no say.

Defense does not win championships but it helps. You can't win a ring in the NBA today only scoring 70 points in games. That's not going to cut it against the elite teams. It's about buckets and defense.

You're not gonna win championships giving up 103 ppg either which the Rockets did.
Kris Bryant will go down as the greatest Chicago athlete after MJ

The thing you guys have over everyone is Thibs

As much of an odd-couple he and Melo may seem I think there's a true connection it seems

It's actually reminding me of Chris Paul and Doc Rivers last year where they both wanted each other and the Clippers made it happen

Someone shake the hell out of me if this seems like bias. But Melo seemed very underwhelmed and in a hurry to get the hell out of there. Just didn't scream...this was a freakin awesome visit. In fact, none of the parties involved seemed all that enthusiastic about how everything went. Again..if that's my bias, shake me, slap me, and tell me to shut the hell up.

The most important personnel decision made back then was made by Rod Thorn when he drafted Michael Jordan.

I'd say Phil pretty much had no say in that.

but he does have rings, yes, many of them. He's excellent at managing ego's, I dom't know how excellent he is at GMing. I'll tell you if he gives Melo the max for 5 years I'll question his first big decision as a GM, thats a dumb move to me.

I'll say the leaders right now are

1.NY/CHI
2.DAL (even before their meeting!!)
3.HOU (don't think it went great)

4.LAL

I like Carlisle too I just don't see Melo being as infatuated with him as he seems with Thibs

I think he'd rather work with Thibs than Phil tbh
