I would not blame Woodson for all of it. I get your gist but the guys that made you win are gone and will have to be replaced just to get to "0" of year before last. Which isn't much better than Bulls last year

The year before--you had a better roster
Younger Chandler--who was great that year
Novak-perfect fit for that team
Kidd--excellent defender despite shooting woes

Then you got
older Tyson, no Novak, no Kid and added a net negative player in Bargs.
Pablo Pringles was a little worse as he's older.

Right now you don't have anyone who moves the needle except Melo and Shump.
So you need to get an elite rim protector as good as 2013 Chandler
Lights out 3 pt shooter like 2013 Novak
Plus defender PG with smarts to run a team like 2013 Kidd
And I'll give you a hint--you didn't get any of that in the DAL trade. Some may pan out later but none will move the needle next year like any of those guys did. Calderon was a dump on DAL part--they cut bait when they saw his D and got better play out of a much cheaper Devin Harris.

And those 3 pieces will get you back to where you were then--a 53 win team WITH melo--not an easy task. You just shipped out Tyson and have no one even close to him (even at his broken down level). The team will be much worse next year.

I see at least 2 years and probably 3. So Melo will be counting on the Paul Pierce twilight of his career--not impossible and I do think his game will age well as did Pierce.

Vs today in Chicago having 48 win team WITHOUT Rose and without Deng even. With Melo alone it's likely close to 57+ win team--add in Rose and it's easily top seed in east next 3 years --while he's waiting for NY to get to 53 wins.

Next 3 years wins
NYK 35-45-55 we will give you benefit of doubt.
CHI -60-62-60

% chance at making finals (hollinger rating--based on MOV largely)
NYK 0-2-10
CHI-20-25-25

He's got to weight that vs. the dough. S&T would lessen that a bit and like Pierce /Garnett he's likely geting overpaid on his last deal--even if it isn't a max it's a 13M/year + range --so yes no matter what he's getting less money but that can be largely mititgated. Add in cost of living here--trump tower here is probably 1/2 NY costs--and it isn't a huge haircut as they are making out in the media.

But he's got family/kids and likes NY--trusts in Phil--so there is that. But in no way do you guys have an easy basketball path to even get back to that 53 win team. There are gaping holes a Pau Gasol signing won't even begin to touch.

Aggrey Sam reports the Bulls are brimming with confidence about their chances. Something must have gone great yesterday. Let's hope Larsa Pippen doesn't let LaLa screw this up.

I am not really sure that many Bulls fans expect to see Rose play at an MVP level again. In fact, I believe that if we land Melo in FA, and get in our time machine and bring the 2011 Rose to next years team, he wouldn't win an MVP for the mere fact that he wouldn't have to do so much.

This is part of the reason why we are such a great landing spot for a player like Carmelo or Lebron. We are a true team. Our guys know their roles. They are all bought in. We just need that go to scorer.

Less egos, more basketball = more wins.

This kind of argument was so popular last year too. No way Dwight Howard leaves the Lakers. No way.

Wha? That's not even close to the same argument. Most people thought the Rockets were the front runners to land Dwight the minute free agency started. It was just a question of will he pass up the money.

Carmelo Anthony doesn't give two craps and a penny about Jeremy Lin or his number. This is a story because its funny and insulting to Lin. Not because it matters to the Melo sweepstakes.

Lin was a former teammate though. That might've rubbed him the wrong way but we'll never know.

If Melo doesn't pick Houston then we'll know why.

The data is irrefutable but OK. Its not what the writer is saying but it is what he is proving in his data chart. But keep being a defense triumphs over all fan and see how far that gets you. The Bulls front office would agree with me and the numbers don't lie either.

Bulls additions this summer....
Rose 16-18ppg
McDermott 25ppg in college, 5th all time
Mirotic 13-14ppg in best euro league
And if we get Melo....add 25ppg to that

We got offensive talent

Lin sounds offended in his twitter and disrespected

Maybe this is just some sort of cover-up

Or maybe it's sincere, idk

Sounds like he already has run out of cheeks for Houston to slap. Or poke . Or whatever

Maybe he needs to even rethink his twitter handle

Nope but good try lol.

"Nope" is not a strong argument. Though I'll admit, "lol" is a little better. Here: http://www.basketball-reference.com/teams/DET/2004.html

That's not really the point though. Lin is under contract to the Houston Rockets and wears #7. Melo is not under contract to Houston and they pretty much pretended he didn't exist. Yeah, he probably won't be there if Melo goes to them, but he's still an employee of the organization right now.

I wasn't suggesting Lin has to be shipped upon a Melo acquisition - I don't know. I was saying it's common for a player to give up his jersey number for an incoming superstar. Dwight took Beverly's number, for instance. I can see how it's a (slight) slight, but it shouldn't be that insulting. Melo criticizing the contract Houston gave Lin, now that's insulting. So I'm thinking it's like a build up.

Of course it's insulting. Players who join their respective teams wanting to retain their old numbers usually offer those players a little extra incentive to do so, like expensive watches or what not. In the case of the Rockets, they didn't even ask for Lin's blessing to use his jersey number to court Melo, instead they just disrespected him.

Yeah, I'd be a little peeved. I'd get over it quite quickly, but I'd still feel insulted that they didn't have the courtesy to at least inform me knowing damn well that those images would likely leak for the entire world to see.

It was an amateur move by the Rockets.

I think his point is that you don't understand the difference between chronic and acute injuries. To my knowledge, there is no historical comparison to Derrick Rose's situation right now, so the question can't be answered.

There actually is. Ronaldo is actually closer to Rose than ppl like stoudemire and roy.... Bc his is 2 freak injuries and not degenerative conditions, despite being a different sport.

Interesting. Thanks!

3 years from now, Rockets will use Melo's #7 to photoshop Kyle Lowry, who will be a big star free agent by then, in a Rockets jersey

Btw, have we let Ben Gordon know we are using his number?

We don't even need Mirotic or Doug to be good. They should just shoot the open shots and knock them down. If you have a 1&2 combo in Carmelo Anthony and Derrick Rose you are an elite offensive team.
