4 year deal, player option for the 4th year for Melo's security

As a Knicks fan, how will you feel if Melo takes the 5 yrs/$130 mil?

No Jordan dwarves it not really the bulls brand. The Knicks are on equal footing if not better.

Jordan and the Bulls and one and inseparable. Every great moment in his career, he's wearing a red or white jersey with the word "Bulls" on the front.

Please stop with the delusion that the Knicks have any value other than their location and their stadium.

Have you been to New York? Have seen how many number 7's are everywhere? You guys have a lot going for you but if you think earning potential in Chicago is better than New York than you are grasping at straws. Focus on the fact melo seems to like your core. I am very confident that he is coming home to the Knicks, however you guys certainly are putting a scare in us.

That is true, which may indicate the Bulls feel Gasol may want to come to CHI along with Melo. So they can meet with Gasol and ask him to help encourage Melo to decide on CHI.

injuries are a concern for every team

Dwight's back, Kobe's everything, Dirk, STAT, Rose, Noah

Yeahm injuries are a concern for every team let's compare Dwight to Rose

yet I didn't

reality is back injuries are a concern for bigs, especially guys like Dwight who rely on their athleticism

Derrick has basically had 2 freak accidents but with guards they can adjust their games skill wise much easier than bigs

Well it appears Melo is gonna chase the money and losses and head back to NY.

On to plan B.

I prefer to trade butler or Gibson plus others to get Love.

I get the wave of negativity but then I don't. It was well known that the Bulls were going to be very aggressive during this free agency period. Regardless of how well they may have felt the meeting with Melo went yesterday, they have to do due diligence with other free agents as well just in case. If they don't then everyone would be complaining about how they sat around not doing anything.

I don't think that this meeting with Gasol is any indication about how confident they were about the Melo meeting and him possibly coming. But they have to do this right now otherwise they run the risk of having established no dialogue with other free agents in the very possible event that Melo opts to take the money and stay in NY.

I think reality is starting to set in and he stays in NY and that is ok because unlike Lebron who teamed up with two other all stars Melo will be going to a team that will take a while to get good if they ever get good. If Lebron would have stayed in Cleveland that would have been ok because we built a team that could have had handled them.

Carmelo I believe just wanted to be recruited since this is probably will be his last chance, for him to uproot his WIFE, kids and I think he truly loves New York. Then you had all that money he would be leaving on the table and just because he comes to the Bulls there is no guarantee we win either.

The bad thing is time, so much time has passed since the end of the season when he probably couldn't wait to leave the Knicks but now Phil comes in, makes a couple of moves already and you know he is in his ear all the time.

If he indeed goes back to NY please don't put too much money into this Gasol thing, only sign him unless you can get away with a modest contract, don't handicap this team for future free agents with him.

If you can't get Love in a trade then I think its ok to settle with Mirotic, McDerm, and a healthy Rose as additions, keep Boozer as a backup and try again next off season.

Please please don't do nothing stupid like 2010!!!! PLEASE!!

bittersweet

1. I'd be happy he's back
2. I'd wish he took less to maybe add another talent or 2

But then again we can easily waste the money on bums come 2015 if we strike out

I live in Austin, TX. I see more Bulls hats than Cowboys, Texans, and Spurs combined.

I respect that Carmelo may go back to New York. I just believe that he is moving to a better basketball brand and a better chance at winning if he comes to Chicago.

Let's go with this.

Wasn't something along these lines reported earlier? Windhorst, maybe?

So if he comes back to New York you guys thinks it's all about the money huh. What if he doesn't take 5/130 but takes 5/110? Is he still all about the money? Real question

I'm calm and not overreacting. There was discussion in one of these threads yesterday that it would be clear today how the bulls felt about getting Melo and this gasol news should make it pretty clear.

Return to Chicago Bulls
