Sorry, missed Moonbeam's vote . . . that makes it 21 for Russell, 19 for Kareem, and 2 for others. This now becomes a runoff between Russell and Kareem. If the Hakeem and the Wilt voter wish to vote in this runoff, they may do so; if any Russell or Kareem voters wish to change their votes they may do so. If any of the 13 registered voters who did not yet vote with to vote they may do so.

I will close this vote tomorrow around 5Pm EST if I can; if not it will have to wait until around 11P.

Let the fight continue!

The thing with Jordan though, is that a lot of people see his GOATness as so self-evident that it doesn't need explaining. He's the consensus, so it's like, "Well, you already know, so I shouldn't have to go into it unless you've been living under a rock." And, generally, discussion about a player is going to end after they win anyway. If they're already in, there's no further need for campaigning. Discussion is going to center around the next candidates.
I remember your posts from the RPOY project, you consistently brought it. Please continue to do so, sir. This board needs guys like you to counteract ... worthless posters

Kareem- 19 votes (Baller, Colts, Greatness, Dr P, DannyN, Basketballefan, tlafan, trex, Ronny, realbig3, Owly, Mutnt, NArigo, Sacto, Kayess, Lorak, Moonbeam, UBF, 0_6)

Russell- 21 votes (Pen, fplii, Quinn, JBulls, HBkid, Dhodgkins, mmerl, batmana, Texas, Quo, Jaivl, Ardee, Dr MJ, D Nice, Drza, PCP, GC Pan, Rich316, Rico, MacGill, Dr Spaceman

Hakeem- 1 (90'salldecade- preferences Kareem though in his post)

Wilt- 1 (Notnoob)

With Gregoire indicating he'd support Kareem too, and the 3 votes not counted. I really think this must be left open longer, or go to Kareem. Both the 2 votes for Wilt and Hakeem indicate they'd take Kareem too! I thought no plurality wins.

Hmm? A vote for Wilt or Hakeem.... Indicates that they would take wilt or Hakeem at the spot .This isn't the Kareem vs Russell thread, you're allowed to vote who you think is most deserving of the spot, and that shouldn't be converted into something else for some odd reason

This. Other posters have commented on this. He wants his guys in where he wants them.

The trouble is, without having single-transferrable-vote (where the people with unpopular selections get to choose their next best when their first choice is eliminated), there is a *strong* pull towards tactical voting, where people don't vote for the person they think is the best candidate, they pick the best candidate they think has a chance of winning.

This is something that we need a plan for by pick #4, since I see that pick as being wide open.

Fair enough. I'm curious to see how things turn out and I'm enjoying it so far.

Apologies for being new.

I am assuming that if I don't wish to change my vote I do nothing and my vote stands.

You make a good point. Perhaps a first and second choice with weighted votes?

So there is less tactical maneuvering? Not sure about the solution though.

I wanted 1-5 preferences all along, but I think it might be too late to do it at this stage.

Exactly this. Doesn't mean someone has to switch a vote to just do it.

Jordanbulls we were explicitly told in the rules that nobody wins with a plurality, that there would be run offs in the event of a plurality win.

No one has an issue with that idea. I think the issue is Baller attempting to personally re-assign votes to the candidate he wants. The run-off solves the issue. People can vote for Nader initially and then cast a vote for a player with an actual chance to win in the run-off if there is one if they so choose.

Also, I'm assuming my existing votes stands but if not I'm still voting for Russell

I had Kareem 3rd at the start of this project and have heard lots of compelling arguments both directions on him, but not enough to move him ahead of Russell.

Yeah, I did notice that all of the swing votes were for the candidate that he had voted for. The runoff vote probably needs to be tallied by penbeast (I'd assume that silence means you let your previous vote stand).

Just wanted to reaffirm my vote for Russell, in case that's necessary for the runoff.
Now that's the difference between first and last place.

I don't like the plurality run off. In a few threads there will be multiple candidates for the spots so pretty much every thread will turn into a run off. Would prefer that it doesn't. Maybe change the rule so that if there is at least 30-40% of the vote in 1 player, there is no run off.

Or, people indicate their 2nd/3rd preferences when they cast their vote.

True!! I don't get why it is a runoff it is 21 to 19 though. If it was tied I can see it.

There were 42 votes cast, and no one received a majority (one more than half)

The purpose of this is really for future rounds when the votes are more splintered

If player A gets 5 votes, player B 4, Player C 3 and Player D 3 the thought was that we didn't want to give the slot to Player A if more people thought Player B was better.

I prefer it this way...now, the voters who went with someone other than Kareem or Russell can make their pick between them.

Now, everyone gets to vote for whoever they want, but at the end of the day, their vote still counts for something in the run-off. And nobody's winning based off a plurality in this case.

If we start voting for multiple players at once, such as a preference voting...we lose a lot of discussion, which is the whole point of the project.

And if not enough votes for Kareem are counted by the deadline, I believe that Russell should be declared the winner. I think that's how you're doing it, but just to make sure.

Vote for Russell or Kareem stay unless there is a post after this changing them. Votes for anyone else are discarded but those voters may now vote for either Russell or Kareem. So . . . it's 21-19 for Russell right now.
