- Dirk is on par with Duncan as a player, a monster, someone who's game isn't predicated on physical skill, whose shooting will always be there, who embodies a team : he will take 10millions à la Duncan to make his team win, a leader who is followed by all in his team AND the ideal stretch 4 in the modern NBA. To get that title window for the next 2/3 seasons, I would go there.
- Rose was a physical phenom coming out of 2 lost seasons, with a mysterious quasi autistic way of functioning with his team, FO, and the public. He is an unknown quantity at this stage...
It pains me to say so, I hope he comes to Chicago, but to me Dirk and Carlisle offer much more guarantee of competing in the next couple of years.
Dirk is 36 though. For all we know, his game could fall off a cliff next season as KG's did this year. Leadership and intangibles can only take you so far, when the decline hits you it hits you hard. We can't base our perception of Dirk's longevity on what Duncan is doing. Duncan is a top 5 player all time with a different playing style and with a different role on his team. I love Dirk, but him being dependable for the entirety of Melo's contract is hardly a certainty. In all likelihood Dirk is going to have 2 good years left before he steps completely into role player territory.
Rose, Noah, and Taj (and obviously Thibs) are a much more sure situation long-term, even with Rose's lack of play.
