Because the alternative is retaliation. Christians are commanded to love and pray for their enemies, not fight them.

Whether the consequence is that they´d become systematic victims, as you put it perpetual doormats, is besides the point.

So there's only lie there and take it, and "retaliation" (a more balanced way of putting it would be defending yourself)? And you set up another false dichotomy of love your enemies and fight them. You can do neither you know.

Lin tweeted from the Gospel of Luke. In the Gospel of Matthew Jesus also says to turn the other cheek and here it is in the context of taking revenge:
Spoiler:
38 “You have heard that it was said, ‘Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth.’ 39 But I tell you, do not resist an evil person. If anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to them the other cheek also.
(Matthew 5:38-39)

So yes it is presented (and commanded) as alternative to retaliating.

And yes, you are right, you can do neither (love nor retaliate), but being commanded to love rules out retaliation, which is why I found it relevant.
Loving your enemy is stupid, it's not virtuous.

I disagree that it´s stupid to love your enemies but I can see how you can think so depending on your interpretation of love. I think it is definitely virtuous to care for people who cause you harm.

Why is this even a topic of discussion and why is Lin so sensitive about it. He's a roleplayer and Melo is a superstar. They wanted to show Melo in a Rocket's jersey and Melo's number is 7. Get over it. Much worst disrespect happens everyday than superstars getting photoshopped wearing a team's jersey.

Disappointing comments coming from a moderator, a random post proved that Howard's pictures were done up with more class and in respect of Beverley (a bench player) and you go out to try and undermine what they did to Lin. If Lin himself felt disrespected then why do you matter?

Never saw you actively on the Houston board and why is Hayden considered active Lin fan when I'm pretty much the only guy defending Lin there.

Why do so many people throw out the moderator card when they disagree with your opinion? I don't understand that. I guess we're not entitled to an opinion like everybody else? I'm not insulting people or trying to belittle them because they don't agree with me. Yet somehow I've disappointed you. Ok

Case in point. You've been a member since February. You say things like "who are you" and "why do you matter" when that has nothing to do with making your point. No need to result to personal attacks.

You call that a personal attack? You just made a personal attack on the entire hundreds and thousands of basketball fans who happen to like Lin, branding them LOFs and the most rabid fans you've ever seen. I don't think I've called you anything yet.

Lin said himself that he felt disrespected, who are you to say that he shouldn't be? Are you trying to say that he's making a fuss? Would posting Howard's pictures make it better?

Now answer my other question, where are all the LOFs that are bothering you here so much that they're sooooo bad. I want to hear this because I think its just an excuse to make a racial side against certain people.
* Since 1985, Jeremy Lin became one of 15 players to have scored at least 20 points, seven assists and a steal for six games in a row, including 136 points in 5 starts beating out Iverson, Jordan and O'Neal :D

Honestly, I don't get why we didn't just go with Melo with #15.

Lin is not great, overpaid, I couldnt stand Lin bandwagon fans in the past, but com'on, u can tell he plays hard and is still a legit player who adjust for the team coming off from the bench.
Yet McFail throws him under the bus for his own coaching failure all year, and now this?
I really hope Lin somehow ends up in Golden States and they face Rockets in playoff. Unless Rockets have a new coach they are surely due for another 1st round exit with or without Melo.

What's up with all the fools attacking Lin? Guy just said he feels disrespected...on twitter. This should have 0 to do with his ability (which is not even poor as haters make it sound to be) but with the Rockets' class. It is a bitch move by HOU. I hope Rockets get Melo and they end up blowing up while Lin gets traded to a team that treats players with respect. Why use Lin's number out of all people?

Rockets have treated Lin like utter crap from the moment he signed that contract. Not a Lin fan, but the guy sure is class and has handled it admirably.

If I'm boss and I feel you're overpaid and the newly comer is better, then I can treat you as shxt? Common it's the basic of what a professional organization shouldn't do. Even the worst player in the league can't be treated that this !

Uhh....maybe cause that's Carmelo Anthony's number? Last year when they did the same presentation to Dwight, they had an image of him in a Rockets jersey with the #12. That's what Patrick Beverley's number was...but no one said about that.

Sorry but Lin's contract is an absolute joke. It's not that he isn't a good player, he is simply overpaid. But that is the trend these days, look at Jodie. :banghead:

Not sure if it's been posted yet, but it looks like this Houston PR disaster might have had a slight role in costing them Lowry after all. It seems he was certainly aware of it as he was making his decision yesterday, and even decided to poke fun at the Rockets for their incompetent PR gaff after turning them down.

That is so true.

Most chinese (and asian people for that matter), you never hear them b*tching and complaining about it all the time. That's what makes it even sadder IMO. They just put up with life and make the best with what they have and move on.

BTW I would absolutely LOVE to have Lin on the Hornets! Perfect attitude and demeanor. Great for the team in more ways than on the court.

you can have him for free

Yeah, Rockets don't want any classy players on their team. Only room for Floppers like Harden and Scumbags like Dwight.

I can see the fans are pretty classless too, doing your organization proud, man!

This (the topic of this thread) is the type of thing that has me down on the organization. And this is not an outlier, IMO.

It's sad. Things don't have to be done this way. But they are done this way. And that is why people become alienated, IMO.

I look to your posts as my 'go to Rockets' guy. If you feel this way (as i do), i don't see how anyone could see otherwise.

I am sure some will tell Lin to man up or stop being a pussy, likely because they don't like him because of Linsanity, which he had no control over, but he didn't deserve this.

It's not just the number, but the fact that if Anthony (or James) are going to Houston, Lin is out the door. The number thing just compounds it, as does not clearing it with him/his manager, as Woj noted.

Poor form, Morey.

He is great at acquiring talent, but i don't think he knows how to build a team.

Also, some of the responses in this thread are absurd.

If this wasn't Lin, and another player that wasn't loathed by a group of people because of Linsanity, i am sure the reaction would differ.

Typical GB, playing the man and not the situation.

I don't follow the Raptors very much -- what does this mean? Sorry to be dense, but what does Amir have to do with it?

Lowry is poking fun at and referencing Melo taking Lin's jersey. He's saying that he's not taking his teammate Amir's jersey.

Lowry is laughing at the bumbling Rockets FO's attempt to do damage control on this PR flap, right after Lowry turned the Rockets down

Lin should have stayed in NY, too bad they didnt even make an offer to him. I think for NBA-story sake, he would have been much better placed there. Everyone says the Rockets have a big Asian market, but for the general NBA, it seems he got lost there.
