I know everyone here loves Gogi, including myself. But I think that if we have to choose between him and Bledsoe, it's Bledsoe. The reason is defense. An elite defensive PG, I think, is more valuable to a championship contender. Dragic is the better shooter and better scorer going to the rim. I think Goodwin can duplicate the latter aspect of Gogi's game, though not the former. We'd really miss Gogi, but come playoffs, I think we'd Bledsoe more.

Key thing for me is, if we're giving up Dragic, I want a marquee PF coming our way. There is but one realistic target, and that's Kevin Love. How close, in terms of value, is Dragic + Morrises for Love? All four become free agents after one year, though the Morrises are restricted. If we're talking Dragic, we ought to be coordinating with Minnesota to see if we can net something they want in a trade.

As others have mentioned, the Pacers have nothing that should reasonably interest us other than Paul George. Stephenson we could sign outright (but I'd rather not have a domestic-abusing statwhore on the squad, okay? call it a personal thing). You know the Pacers are offering George Hill and...??? I bet they'd offer Hibbert: pass! I just don't know.

I imagine the interest is not mutual.

I dunno, looking at the championship teams the last decade or even further, how essential WAS the defense at the PG position? It's possible that it's more important than five years ago due to the depth of the position, but in the end it's going to be having a dominant frontcourt player or something that is more important. Tony Parker is pretty much as awful on defense as he's always been, and he has a new ring.

In the background, this is really the first week that the Suns would be a player in a Kevin Love trade or any other trade for a high-salary player. They did not have the cap space to absorb Love's contract until Tuesday. The focus of any Love trade remains on Golden State, although it is viable that Flip Saunders, now the Timberwolves coach, would hold onto his best player to see how the season plays out and still have the ability to deal Love at the February trade deadline, if desired.

If Flip holds onto Love until the deadline, he's basically killing any potential return he could receive. Teams rarely win championships with players acquired at midseason. Teams want to trade for a guy whom they might reasonably re-sign. Honestly, it would seem that Flip is simply not overly concerned with the prospects of that team going forward. Failing to trade Love would be a huge mistake. Is it pride?

Totally forgot about that! Didn't he say he was gonna return and suddenly signed with Utah?

Yes, he opted out of his contract, which was allowed as a 2nd round pick, and they were going to give him a bigger deal, and Utah swept in and gave him an even BIGGER deal. I remember Simmons writing about it. At the time Cleveland had a blind owner and he wrote "Boozer stabbed a blind guy in the back!"

Kind of like Washington did with Arenas taking him from GS.

Not to get too off topic but what happened with Arenas? I never heard about that (never followed his career).

GS made a great draft pick in the 2nd round, but those guys could become free agents much sooner, so they lose the rights, and if they don't have the cap space, can't keep them, and Washington gave him a big deal. They created a rule to try and prevent this (The Arenas rule)...I believe now they are restricted to some extent, but it still allows other teams the ability to make odd deals with 2nd rounders that teams may hesitate to match. That's how Houston got Asik and Lin.

Kidd is a stretch because it was basically Dirk and friends that year the Mavs won the championship. Let's just say they didn't beat the Heat because Kidd was successful in containing Mario Chalmers. The 04 Pistons were just an overall great defensive team. Case can be made for Rondo's D I suppose, but the story of that year was the big three. I guess the question is: would we have a couple rings if Nash could guard anybody (and well, if Tim Donaghy didn't ref our games)?

Of course, I mean think about it. Besides George, pacers don't really have anything worth Dragic. So of course, talks will stall. I guarantee that the Pacers were the ones who called Phx. Phoenix of course said no. But phx, also thinking big picture. To even think about trading Dragic, there has to be another star involved that comes to phx.

What do they have for Kevin if they have nothing for us? Lance sign and trade? We give Indy Goran and pieces to Minny. Minny gives us Love and Indy gives Minny Lance. Minny goes with Lance and Rubio back court?

Are we into deep talks with Lebron? He wants Love instead of Bosh?
Dragic, Bledsoe, James, Melo are too many ball handlers?
Melo not coming anyways?

I like Bledsoe, Goran, James and Bosh better than Bledsoe, James and Love.

We wont trade Goran, because we don't have to. If the Suns ball with whatever team they have on the court next year and Goran is a part of that, then you keep and pay Goran. Go over the cap.

I gues you can only have a big 3 far as money going out maybe? I don't know :banghead:

PG defense is overrated. The best pgs still do their thing against anyone. The only way I even THINK about trading Dragic is if Love came back...maybe Stephenson would go to Minny. But I'd MUCH rather send Bledsoe out.

Imagine if we got Love at the expense at Dragic, Bledsoe to have knee problems, and then Love to bolt. People wanting Bledsoe over Dragic are crazy. The guy has NEVER demonstrated he can run a team. He had good stats for half a year, had Dragic handle the bulk of the load on offense, and now wants a max. It's a load of crap.

Didn't Melo get a huge haul near the deadline? Teams without cap space would give their best offers then, and maybe some without cap space. Having a player when he becomes a free agent gives you a major advantage since you can give him a bigger max. Look at all the free agents staying with their own teams over the years. Some would bolt without the 5th year and bigger raises.

Plus, in our case, we could offer free agents we sign this summer in a deal on Dec 15th or Jan 15th, but not before.

Marc Stein: Indiana Pacers, I'm told, have tried to engage Phoenix in trade talks for Goran Dragic, but teams have found no common deal ground. Yet something to keep an eye on, though, with Indy known to covet an upgrade at PG and stubborn perception Suns can't afford Bledsoe AND Dragic. Twitter @ESPNSteinLine

If we decide we're going to trade Goran, we can get far more than they can offer. Unless Love is coming back, I want no part in a trade.

Seeing as Marc Stein's tweet was phrased "Indiana Pacers, I'm told, have tried to engage Phoenix in trade talks for Goran," it seems as if the conversation was started by Pacers. Therefore, I doubt LBJ is demanding Love, or else we would have started trade talks all over the league to try and set up a 3-way. Also, Stein responded to Zach Lowe's comments with:
[tweet]https://twitter.com/ESPNSteinLine/status/484712721045127168[/tweet]
I thought that rumor was proved false on this board. If so, Stein has very little info.
