It's starting to seem like it.

Didn't Dan say that we went after Avery Bradley and Jodie Meeks but got outbid? Bradley signed for 4/32 and Meeks 3/19. If we simply got 'outbid' we must have been offering the MLE.

Unless we were just smart enough to have a limit with those guys of around MLE money knowing that they're not worth more.

See the Deng/Ariza talk seems to be concrete, and there's just no way we are realistically targeting those guys for MLE money. Makes me hold hope that we've got more, but I just don't know.

No Dan said we went to stephenson and he said he wanted double the money. Meeks and Bradley is just destroying the market. I dont think we went for them

Would again make sense that we offered MLE. He turned down close to $9 million per year from Indiana. Double the MLE would be closer to $11 million per year.

No way we offered $8-10 million and he was looking for $16-20 million.

It's all starting to add up to depression.

Even if we target Deng via sign-and-trade, how much could we even offer him by including Norris Cole's $2 million? Can we also use the $2 million trade exception that we have?

Think it was Woj who reported the possibility of Miami entertaining a S&T for Deng.

It appears Collison got slightly less than the full MLE.

If the reports of 10-12M in cap space are true, and so are the reports of Bradley and Meeks getting bigger offers in Boston & Detroit, respectively, it would seem Miami was trying to use cap space on two players, like say Meeks & Gasol. Alternatively, we might be making offers in the "capped team" scenario and offering full MLE, which would explain why both those players got more than the full MLE from their respective destinations, though Bradley seems to have gotten significantly more than the full MLE.

Meeks, Bradley, Gasol, and Hawes all make sense to me because they're all pieces you could put on the floor with the Big 3 at the same time. I'm less certain about Deng & Ariza taking on a Battier-style super-small stretch 4 role, which is why I'm not sold on the fascination with them, unless it signals some sort of confidence the Heat have in Oden/Birdman returning and being healthy rotation players.

Gonna smoke a lot of weed tomorrow. Over/under 15+ blunts, no sure yet. Hopefully the Gunners lock up Alexis Sanchez to take some of this pain away.

a fellow arsenal fan!!

hearing that wenger is targeting sanchez and vidal

I think we'll get Sanchez since it seems like he prefers us over Liverpool and has already agreed to personal terms. Would jump for joy if we land Vidal, but find Schneiderlin, Khedira, or Luiz Gustavo more realistic.

& to the Liverpool fans -- Sanchez has already expressed his displeasure in potentially joining Pool.

Vidal is going to end up at Old Trafford in the Theatre of Dreams. #GloryGloryManUtd

...but back to the matter at hand, I still think we're in good shape this offseason to retool. Sure we struck out with Gortat and Lowry but they were just pipedreams. The Big 3 and Mr. Enforcer will be back and that alone is enough to get to get back to the Finals for a 5th straight time....now sure we need to add more pieces and change our system if we want to get over the hump against a team like San Antonio but lets not lose our minds like we're a treadmilling team or something. We're still the HEAT and will continue to be the HEAT!!!

well if the MLE is all we have to offer, then we're getting nobody. But i seriously doubt thats the case. The big 3 opted out just to take up all the cap AGAIN? we gotta have a little more than the mle, right? maybe 6-7 mil of space? WHo knows, the 3 arent even signed yet.

With the cap expected to rise significantly again next season, Miami's restructuring could give them 2 or even 3 straight years with the full MLE (depending on how big the new TV deal is) instead of mini MLEs. That's not nothing.

If we have the full MLE, we will get someone this offeseason, just probably not on the caliber we were hoping. I'd say Gasol is the best shot at taking a discount since so many of his other suitors are also capped out (OKC, SA) or not contenders (LAL, NYK). Chicago seems to be the only team that's both good and definitely able to create room to give him something significant over the MLE, by amnestying Boozer. Not sure if they're willing to do that for Gasol though.

Pretty sure LA can't make room to sign Melo or absorb his salary in a trade without renouncing Gasol, btw, so I don't know that a Melo+Gasol thing works out there. Haven't examined it closely though

Somebody mentioned Chauncey in the previous thread. I've thought about him when learning that he is a FA, but he is old as dirt. Thinking about old as dirt Pistons players, where's Rip Hamilton?

Also, where's Dahntay Jones? He was crazy good wing defender afaik.

i didnt say the MLE was nothing. But i expected to have like 5 mil of cap space AND the MLE, i mean, how much money are these guys taking, its going to take up the whole cap? ridiculous

Ideally Size or a defensive player at this point would be ok. It feels like where going into a fight with a water gun this free agency compared to opposing teams.

I highly doubt that they would help Riley's cause to bring LBJ back when they want the very same guy to sign with them.

Return to Miami Heat
