It was? By whom?

I would think the $80,000,000 was the the primary reason that Wall signed his extension -- particularly when the team would have been perfectly justified in waiting until seeing what they had in Wall before maxing him out.

I remember hearing Jalen Rose and Bill Simmons talk about it quite a bit when that deal was being signed. I'm not saying it was a deciding factor or anything, but it was out there. Jalen, in particular, talks a lot about the agent stuff. And he's rarely off when he talks about that kind of stuff.

I seriously doubt Wall would have refused a max extension if the Wizards didn't re-sign Martell Webster. If Wizards GM Ernie Grunfeld somehow allowed the agent to make those two a package deal then he's an even bigger idiot than I thought.

I don't know what the truth is, but if I hear Jalen Rose talk about behind the scenes stuff with agents, I tend to listen. He's pretty tapped in to that world.

I don't think Wall would have refused either, but I don't think this hurt the cause at all. And Grunfield and idiot have been fairly synonymous in the past, so...

None. They need to let both Ariza and Gortat go in order to have meaningful cap space. They could have about $18M in cap room if they let every free agent walk and they buy out Andre Miller.

The MLE can refer to Non-Taxpayer or Taxpayer.

non-taxpayer means the full MLE and they're hard-capped around $81M or so. If a team thinks they may go a little higher than that, then the taxpayer MLE is a smaller version of the full MLE. Washington signed Paul Pierce for 2/10, which fits in the full MLE but not the taxpayer MLE, so Washington has a hard cap enforced at $81M.
