Good freaking grief.

Asking Melo to sign for $16 million is a pipe dream.

So it's odd why you would put the main impediment to giving Melo a $20 million offer front and center.

People keep assuming Knicks are offering #Melo the MAX??? They could've did that two weeks ago and none of this would be taking place

Why in the world would Pau, at 34, go to knicks, and that too and such a substantial paycut? And play under his old teammate Fisher??

I don't see this at all. I'm keeping the faith till there's something definitive.

I've spent too much time on this to give up now!

Because his old coach is there, he might like Fisher, he already has two rings, and it is NY. Pau probably doesn't care much about chasing rings at this point and the Knicks have some familiar faces.

Yeah, he said he hates him and usually disagrees with him. But on the topic of Carmelo, he agrees with nick that he stays in new york for the $$$

He's wrong as usual. If he followed the NBA he would know Melo always planned on being courted. Regardless of his final decision.

And people are assuming it because Phil said it.

Adi Joseph ‏@AdiJoseph now

I'm not sure in what world not having a coach is better than having Rick Carlisle or Tom Thibodeau as your coach.

So... Melo want to play with Gasol, The Bulls want to sign Gasol. The only people who seem to not want Gasol are Bulls fans.

I can imagine this scenario:

Scenario #1:

Melo: Sorry Phil, I'm leaning towards leaving NY.

Phil: What if we offer you the Max Contract?

a) Melo: Where do I sign? (Wanted the max money anyways and used the free agent tour as leverage)

b) Melo: No, I'm leaving no matter what.

Scenario #2:

Melo: I'm staying in NY.

Phil: Great, but we can't offer you the max. We need flexibility, but we are building around you. This is your place. (5 Year $110 Million)
AKME got to go

Which is the better roster?

Are you joking?

IDK man i thinks its closer than u giving it credit for.
Ill put it in terms of minutes played

rose(35) kirk(13)
Butler(35) Snell(13)
Melo (27) McDermott(21)
Taj (22) Melo(8) Smith(13)
Noah(35) taj(13)

the backcourt is looking pretty weak and RMLE would have to supplemented their at SG and or PG.

Rose(35) Lance (10) Kirk (3)
Lance (25) Butler(13) MDJ (10)
Butler (22) MDJ(6) Mcdermott(20)
Taj (22) Mirotic (25)
Noah (35) Taj(13)

The backcourt seems stronger. which is i guess the major difference. The big rotation is relatively equal imo. No real weaknesses in the second roster.

*in conclusion, heck the first roster barely has a 3rd big in smith who was injured last season.

It is a better roster going forward. The first lineup is not winning a championship next season either.

The money is the issue tho imo. The Knicks want him to not only stay and waste a season, but to take a paycut and hope the team gets better. Its not like Miami when you are signing with superstars, you are hoping superstars eventually come. This decision could be the end of Melo's chances to ever contend if chooses wrongly.

It still blows my mind they are pitching to free agents without a head coach.

Eh, part of me thinks the coaching stuff is overblown. The trade-scenario has become common-place (Kidd...lol), and what good coach wouldn't want to push his way to the Lakers if they had Melo-Kobe-Gasol-Randle? It's not a great contender, but still, you'd have JVG, George Karl express interest if you want someone with experience... there are a lot of talented assistant coaches we don't hear much about... and there's always the NCAA angle (least likely).

Don't get me wrong, Thibs/Carlisle/Pops are GREAT selling points, but players are MORE interested in location/roster/organization. Funny though, because a bad coach can ruin a good roster (Brown, D'Antoni).

Eric Pincus ‏@EricPincus 35s

Unsigned Pau Gasol takes up $20 mil of the Lakers space - but Ron Harper - yes Ron Harper takes up $2.9 mil too! http://www.latimes.com/sports/lakers/la ... story.html

We need a poll, do we want Melo at his max?

I thought he was taking less because he wanted to win?

I am still hoping I was wrong about Melo.

All I know is that the Bulls FO is working hard. The fact that they flew to LA to meet Gasol on the same day Melo is there? Come on. It's all connected. :)

That lineup is probably still good enough to make the ECF (if healthy) but man... what a disappointment.

I'm sure the Bulls won't want to leave FA 'empty handed' they'll probably overpay some scrub like Trevor Ariza just so that they can say that they can put some BS P.R. spin on it "he was the guy we were looking at all along"

And Thibs can go back to his favorite line "we have enough"

Ariza isn't a scrub. If he can keep shooting 40 percent on 3s he would be a great addition for a reasonable price. I mean if he is a scrub then what is Butler?

Ariza is absolutely a scrub. He's only averaged over 10 ppg 4 times in his 10 year career. He has career averages of 43% shooting and 34% from 3PT.

He would be yet another offensively challenged player on a team already loaded with them.

So Jimmy Butler is a scrub too then because his shooting percentages are worse?
