OK, so where is the line? If it was reasonable to think that a guy would give up a 5th year at $30M, why was it unreasonable to think that he would give up a few million per year?

That's basically my point.

This basically. I do think Melo would take less money to win.

Would he accept a contract starting at $16 million? **** no.

Exactly. if melo stays in NY he shouldnt be crucified, at least not by me because i think its what we expected once the knicks got Phil Jackson. If he goes somewhere other than CHi or NY, then the narrative can be opened up if the FO failed. I think it would be a yes if another FO outcourts them or if randolfs contract they took for McDermie was the straw that broke the camels back relative to salary posturing.

No. Jordan's beef with the Bulls was Krause. He and JR and Pax are buds. Jordan probably resented Reinsdorf at some point, but the more experience he's had as a GM and owner, the more he's come to respect him.

EVERYBODY'S beef was with Krause. The old Bulls really only started coming back around after he was fired.

If Melo does stay, his entire career will be defined as the guy from the 03 class who chased money and fame over winning. I'm not saying he's wrong to do it, but I can see Melo "paying" for the chance to give his legacy some balance.

It also wouldn't shock me if he said **** it and stayed in NY.
