No, because they would have used the extra space to pay Kirk more, as a reward for his "scrappiness".

I did think it was odd that Melo had Drose workout for him. I hope he is serious about becoming a Bull and less about staying a Knick. If he doesn't want to be here fine, but if this free agency trip is all to see what other teams are up to, it's a low move imo.

That Derrick Rose extension has been nothing but a huge mistake so far

Honestly, I'm not sure many GMs wouldn't have done the same thing. I don't think anyone honestly thought two consecutive injured seasons were coming.

What's interesting is how mum Lebron has been. It'd be something if things fall through there. If we lose out on Melo, it might be smart waiting to see what happens with LBJ before rushing into a Gasol signing.

Correct. It was not a mistake. It was a no-brainer.

@Mike_Bresnahan: Lakers went Hollywood for part of their presentation to Carmelo. Biz team presented a short video done by "The Matrix" producer Joel Silver.

Nobody can predict that a 22-year-old PG coming off an MVP season would suffer two season ending surgeries in consecutive seasons.

It wasn't a mistake, it's just unfortunate. Rose was worth what he got. The Derrick Rose rule though did **** the team over.

You don't think Lebron can take his talents to wind city and play for the Chicago Bulls, right?

I'm pretty sure that the Rose rule only allowed him to get 30% of the cap instead of 25% of it. If I'm correct, the 25% wouldn't allow us to be even remotely close to offering Melo his max deal without doing anything.

No.

Trying to low-ball him would have been a mistake and a PR nightmare.

Boozer was not a mistake either.

Not sure why that would matter for us, he's not coming here.

Also not sure why people think happy athletes want to just pick up and move from city to city when one thing doesn't go there way.

LBJ is smart, their FO has a plan, they will execute. Instead of becoming angrier about the situation, I've become at peace with it. Riley is the best at what he does.

Please explain to me how that crackpot theory explains Noah telling people that Melo is going to NY, if that actually did happen.

Because Melo would have recruited Noah to join up with him when his contract is over...It's how Noah knows he's staying...And it would explain why Noah doesn't give a **** telling randoms what's going on.
