Carmelo is an idiot; he's pitching Gasol to take the RMLE. To do what? Barely make the playoffs? In the East to boot?

Gasol must be like "No wonder the East is so pathetic".

its really dumb isn't it, Lebron must be sitting back and laughing his ass off

Can't believe the pathetic east let Lebron get two rings and still refuses to band together to stop him

Well, Melo will be signing for a 130 million USD. And he just asked Gasol to join him in NYK for 3 and a half million per year.

I know everyone here thinks that Phil will cave on that, but it's always possible that he doesn't.

Not fair to put all the risk on Melo in this gambit. If we really believe Phil will cave why don't we commit to trading Taj/Dunleavy if Phil doesn't go along so that Melo can at least get close to max money. Worst case scenario we have a bit of a hole at PF this year until Mirotic comes over next year and plugs it. Best case scenario we get get add Melo and keep our mid-level exception.

We always are asking our front office to take some risks. Risking Taj to get Melo seems reasonable. to me.

Chicago can send out Dunleavy, Snell and our non-guarantees and give Melo more than $16 million. The $16 million number seems bogus unless Chicago was trying to sell Melo on getting him AND Gasol or Mirotic.Chicago could get to $20 million.

I think its more because we really don't have good trade assets. Minny turned Boston away and they were offering #6 and 17 in this past loaded draft, plus future 1st round picks. We have nowhere near that type of value to offer

Might just be seeing whats Pau's plan....maybe team up in Chi.

Just a guess, who knows? Tryin to be positive

Dude you are spinning. If he was planning to leave he would not be recruiting anyone to NY. Makes no sense

I hope the Bulls get Carmelo. Even though I'm not the biggest Carmelo fan and I think he's a 'me' guy and plays zero defense, he's exactly what the Bulls need. I admire the way the Bulls play basketball with their heart and tough gritty defense, but they simply don't have the scoring punch to represent the Eastern Conf in the Finals. With Melo they'd have a shot.

If you guys miss out on Melo, I wouldn't overpay for Pau Gasol. I think it's a mistake. I don't think he's anything more than a 3rd option on a true title contender at this point in his career. I don't think he's a guy who pushes the Bulls over the top unless you can acquire a top level scoring wing via trade to pair with a Gasol acquisiton. It's a shame, because that need of a big-time wing scorer has been a thorn in the Bulls side for a while now.

As a Sixers fan on a rebuilding team, we have a lot of future pieces in place, but we are gonna need that stud scoring wing ourselves sometime in the near future to pair with MCW, Embiid, Saric, and Noel

Signing Melo to a Max contract (which I suspect is what he will expect if he comes back to NYK) really hampers their ability to rebuild, doesn't it? Do they have any other big contracts that DON'T expire next year?

I still wonder if Phil really wants him at full price.

Could the Lakers do a S&T with Gasol for Bargnani and a 2018 unprotected first? Or is that luxury tax thing an issue?

Wonder what noah has to say about this. Knowing him, if melo does go back to NY, he will blast him in the media and then he will proceed to make New York his bitch every time they play.

This is what I don't get. If his priority was to recruit to see if he could get some guys to NY, why not opt in for one more year and still recruit. Players can talk to players all they want. If it doesn't work, then you aren't locking yourself into a 5 year commitment. This all just seems way more elaborate than it really needed to be. Unless of course Phil really did want to send Melo in as a spy to see what other teams were up to. But then in the case, why not get into Miami's heads as well?

 if Melo is trying to persuade Gasol to take 3 mil a year so the Knicks can barely make the playoffs and crash out in the 1st round.

If that was Melo's plan all along, then he's an idiot tbh.

It ain't over til it's over! Our FO did their best. If Melo doesn't choose CHI our team is still in great shape.

NT said that Melo is recruiting all the teams players to come and play in New York. So, no it's not correct.

We will have to wait and see what Melo final decision is. All these "sources" are bull ****. And that includes the pro Bulls ones.

@KBergCBS: By all indications, Thunder and Bulls remain favorites to land Pau Gasol. But if Melo stays in NY, could sway of Phil-Fish-Melo tip scales?
